' ""Mrs. Kirkland Entertains Xhe Wednesday morning bridge flub was delightfully entertained this week by Mrs. T. J. Kirkland. Those nlaving besides club members were: ^jrs joe Guthrie, Mrs. K. G. Whistler, Mrs. William Ancrum, 'Mrs. Ida Heath, Mrs. Henry Savage and1 Mrs. p jj; Jones. At noon luncheon was served and the games continued until 1:30 o'clock. Party For House Guest One of the prettiest parties given recently was the one which Miss Dotty Zemp gave on Wednesday afternoon in honor of her attractive guest, Miss Retina Tupper, of Summerville. lively flowers in all the bright shades were artistically placed I about the rooms where the five tables *ere arranged for bridge. Hanks were honor guests at a lovely surprise shower given them on Monday evening in Manning by a group of their intimate friends. This lovely affair was given on the lawn at the beautiful estate Lakewood," the country home of Mr. and Mrs. Leon Weinberg. A delicious supper was served to one hundred quests at 8 o'clock and afterwardls a huge basket was placed at either enu of the table at which Mr. and Mrs. Hanks presided. These baskets were filled with the Atost beautiful and useful gifts. Mr. and Mrs. Hanks have only recently moved to Camden and on last Wednesday afternoon their home was burned to the ground. They are deligthful new comers to our city where Mr. Hanks is manager of the Dixie Radio, Incorporated, and their many friends regret their misfortune. Club Net With Miss Yates Miss Lillian Yates wu? hostess at the Thursday afternoon bridge club last week, entertaining at her home on Broad street. Attractive vases of mixed /lowers were placed around the living room and in the hall where four table* were arranged for the games. Cantaloupe a la mode was served, representing basket* with the long, graceful handles of maidenhair fern caught at the top with a yellow flower attractively carrying out the I color scheme of green and yellow. Those playing were: Mrs. Henry Strohecker, of Charleston; Mrs. Joe Guthrie, Mrs. Henry Savage, Jr.,-Mrs, W. L. Ooodale, Mrs. Withers Trotter, Mrs. David Perkins, of Clearwater, Fla.; Mrs. Ilenry Carrison, Jr., Mrs. Alfred Mcleod and Mrs. John deLoach. The club members present were: Mrs. Jack Whitaker, Jr., Mrs. John Villepigue, Mrs. , W. L. Wooten, Mrs. J. B. Zemp, Mrs. Dan M. Jones, Mrs. A. S. Llewellyn and Mrs. T. K. Trotter. Honors House Guest On Wednesday afternoon of last week Mrs. J. L. Guy charmingly entertained with five tables of bridge in honor of her guest, Miss Mary Hooper, of Boston. Pink gladioli, mixed with Queen Anne lace and Shasta daisies were tastefully arranged in the living room. In the sun porch colored zinnias and fern lent charm to the delightful affair. During the game delicious punch was enjoyed, and in the late afternoon an ice course with cake was served. Williams at Park View Inn. Mr. ; Parker is an old Camden boy and it | will be of interest to his friends here j to know that he is now employed as a musician broadcasting from the NewYork studio of the Columbia broadcasting system. Mrs. R. B. Williams returned this week from a visit to relatives in Atlanta. While there she visited Mr. and Mrs. R. D. Williams and friends here will regret to know that "Uncle Bolb" '* confined to his bed most of the time, but is still cheerful and always expresses a desire to return to Camden to see his old friends. Mr. E. DuBose Blakeney, Jr., spent last week here at the home of his parents, Judge and Mrs. E. D. Blakeney. DuBose has recently been given a diploma in aviation ft Kelly Field, Texas, where he has spent a year in training in the government service. M., Jr., have returned home from Myrtle Beach where they spent the past two weeks. Reasonover left on Wednesday by automobile for a visit of two weeks through the mountains of North Carolina.
