Negro, was taken to the penitentiary
in Columbia Saturday afternoon
after he Is alleged to have
crirninally assaulted a five-year-old
white child, daughter of a highly respected
farmer residing about 12
miles north of Kdgefield. The boy
bus, according to officers, confessed
the crime.
Francis K. Knight, Uf>, known as
the last of the John Brown raiders,
was given a soldier's burial in a Boston
cemetery on Wednesday. He
fell down a flight of stairs on Monday
and resulting injuries caused his
death.
