The Children's Shop of Richmond will 'have an
exhibition of its exclusive model* at the Kirk wood
Hotel Thursday, February 20th and Friday 21st.
There will be a costume for every individual child
from the infant to the boy of four, and to the young
lady of fourteen.
Coats, hats, suits, dresses! There you will find
serviceable play frocks?school dresses of ginglham,
piques, linens, dimities, and the sheerest voiles, organdies
and chiffons for the, party or dance frock.
Fach mother will be rewarded by visiting the
Children's Shop and finding an opportunity to supply
the. spring wardrobe for the children with the minimum
exertion.

supervisor of the 4th 8. C, Census
District, which includes York,
Chester, hum-aster, Kershaw, u/id
Chesterfield counties, states that the
machinery is nil set for the work ot
taking the Distrklrution and Manufactures
census, which is to start in the
near future, and to be completed
within thirty days from the starting
date.
He wishes in the outset to stress
the importance of the undertaking, as
the welfare of our people depends
upon business, upon our factories and
counting houses, our farms, arid uu<homes.
These statistics must be reliably
gathered und intelligently compiled
that the progress of our country may
be wisely guided-. The major questions
of public policy are based upon
statistics such as we are expected to
gather.
After careful study, comprehensive
schedules have been drawn up to *ocure
from every store or wholesale
dealer such pertinent facts as sales,
inventory, number of persons engaged,
salaries, rent and other forms of
expense which has to do with the important
field of distribution.
The census of manufactures is taken
every two years, and is a familiar
institution to those interested in its
findings),

m< ddlesorne. There is no disposition
,,n tiie part of those engaged to
pi y into private affairs, as they certainly
have no personal interest, bu*
?-a<h enumerator is merely a unit in
an organization with a mighty task
ahead, the accomplishment of which
will I )c o! vast benefit to our people
to!le tiveiy and individually.
I'i most secrecy surrounds every
census contact, and under the law anv
information furnished shall be used
mly for the statistical purposes for
which it is supplied. No publication
shall be made by the census office,
whereby the data furnished by any
establishment or individual can be
identified, nor shall anyone other
than sworn employees of the census
office examine the individual reports.
The refore, one need feel no hesitancy
in answering fully and frankly the
questions asked by the enumerator.
This is a far-reaching and very
important public service; and that it
may be successful, the Department of
( < minercr asks that the people themselves
be made to realize through the
!:ne assistance of the press and otherwise,
that they have a responsibility,
and urged to join with confidence and
full co-operation in the important undertaking.

In fact, this census is intended to

sold for a profit.
Mr. DePass Named Enumerator *
Mr. \\ . I.. DePass, Jr., of Camden,
has lu-en appointed as enumerator
by the Department Bureau of Census
for Dc-Kall) Township of Kershaw
county. Mr. DePass expects to begin
work on Monday, February 17th, and
asks that the citizens help him to
get the true facts asked for in the

I'iano Pupils Heard in Recital
Wednesday evening, February 5th,
the beginner#' department of Mrs.
J W. Smith'# piano class gave a
delightful * recital at the Htudio on
Laurens street.'
The program was presented in 3
most pleasing manner illustrating the
three elements in music, rhythm, melody
and harmony.
The pupils taking part were Jane
Moore, Harry Moore, Aileen Belk,
Lesta Davis, Kuthryn Myers, Nettles
Mye r? and Betty Ilollund. The entire
group displayed great talent and
thorough training. The highest average
for this term of work was
made by Aileen Belk with Ix'sta
Davis as a close second.
At the close of the'program, three
of the advanced students, Carolyn
McKain, Lila Ross and France# McLeod
favored the gue#t# with several
piano solos and ensemble numbers.
Mrs. Berry Dead
Mrs. Annie Victoria Berry, wife of
J. R, Berry, died at the Camden hospital
Wednesday after u short illness.
Mrs. Berry was the daughter*
of Mr. and Mrs. John F. McCaskill, '

On .Monday, February 3, the .John
I). Kennedy chapter held its regular
meeting and was delightfully entertained
at the home of Mrs. Hughey
Tindal on Fair street, with Mrs. R. E.
C'hewning assistant hostess. The
lower floor was thrown en suite and
beautifully decorated with carnations
and old Southern ivy. Twenty-nine
members were present and two visitors.
The meeting was presided over by
tiie president,' Mrs. S. C. Zemp, and
opt*rod with the Lord's Prayer, followed
by roll cull and reading of
the minutes. Then reports of of|

Treasurer reported expenditure of
$5.00 fur health bonds and $1.00 for
ribbon and duos collected at meeting
