were four former mayors of the city, j
representatives of the local post of
the American Legion and others.
Mayor C. P. DuBose presided and
Dr. John W. Corbett, Camden's first
mayor was seated at the head of the
table. Dr. S. F. Brasington, Mr. i",
H. Yates and" Mr. H. G. Carrison^fr.,
each having served on the aldermanic
board and also several terms as mayor
were present. Dr. Corbett was
the first called upon and gave some
interesting statements concerning
Camden's early fire department.
Chief of the fire department W. F.
Nettles was called upon to speak and
he responded with great enthusiasm.
Will Have Mid-Night Services
There will be a mUJ-night service
at Grace Episcopal church on Christmas
Eve at 11:46 o'clock announces
Rev. ?. G. Richardson, pastor of the
church. On Christmas day services
wiW begin at 10:30 a. m.
Dr. Improving
* The friends of Dr. J. T, Hay will
be pleased to know that he is better
after his serious illness in the Camden
hospital. He left on Tuesday
morning for Miss Eastway's sanitorium
in Columbia.

dance to be held in the Armory on
Friday evening, December 20th, the

given during the holidays.

sponsoring one of the outstanding
events of the week, a Bowery Hall
which will be given at the Precipice

On New Year's Eve the Daughters I

ting on a dance in their Chapter
building, the Old Court House, on I
Broad street. The proceeds from this I
dance will be used for the preserva* J

Mass., arrived on Tuesday and
is a guest at Hobkirk Inn.
Miss Kathleen Fraser, of Englewood,
N. J., arrived on Tuesday and
will spend the holidays at Hobkirk
Inn with her sister, Miss G. E.
Fraser, who is spending the winter
here.
William C. Bissell, who is at school
in Charleston, will arrive Sunday to
spend the holidays with his mother,
Mrs. W. L. Wooten.
Legion Met in Kershaw
A joint meeting of the American
Legion was held on Monday night in j
Kershaw. About thirty-five members
from Leroy Belk Post, Camden,
attended.
Mr. and Mrs. Graham Hosts
Mr. and Mrs. J. Leonard Graham
entertained informally at a supper
party on Sunday evening.
Library to Close
The Camden Public Library will bo
closed on December 24, 25 and 26,
and the librarian, Mrs. W. L. Wooten,
asks all members to get a supply
of books for the holidays.
Shrine Club Gave Banquet
The Shrine Club entertained at a
delightful banquet on Friday evening
last at the Palmetto Tea Room,
honoring their wives. The tea room
was "beautifully decorated for the occasion
?mphasiaing the Christmas
season. Attractive black ink wells
were the favors presented to the
ladles, each bearing the insaription,
"Compliments of the Shrine Club."
About fifty: guests attended.
Miss Yates "Hostess
Miss Ethel Yates was the charming
-hoftess at a bridge supper on Thursday
eveinng last, entertaining the
club of which she is a member. Supper
was served at 7:30 on individual
tables and game followed. Other
guests besides the club members
were Mrs. Henry Savage, Jr., Mrs.|
VfXjj. Wright, Mrs. John K. deLoach,
Mr?. Sumner Waite and Mrs. WithLers

The Junior Welfare Workers which
is represented by some of the finest
young women of Camden are sponsoring
n series of entertainments this
winter. Any organization consisting
of such a fine body of women
deserves every support in the splendid
work which they have undertaken
to'* do for the children of Kershaw
county. . -
Last year they held a clinic her?
at the Camden Hospital at which
there were twenty tonsil operations
performed. Dr. Jenkins Mikell anl
Dr. Kibler, both of Columbia were
in charge of the clinic.
The first entertainment they will
sponsor will be the Bowery Ball or.
December 27th, at the Precipice Tea
Rbom. The jCountry Club Orchestra
will furnish the music. ^
Proceeds will go towards a clinic
which will be hsffiTln the spring atl
the- Camden hospital.

Married in New York
Announcements have been received
which read as follow*:

Smith announce the marriage of their
daughter, Dorothy Kembert to^Villiam
Pratt Heath, Jr., WednCT^ay,
December 11, in New York City."
The wedding ceremony, which wus
characterized by extreme simplicity,
was performed at high noon in the
historic "Little Church Around the
Corner." The impressive "ceremony
was read in the presence of only
members of the immediate families of
the bride and bridegroom and a few
intimate friends of New York, who
winter in Camden.
The bride was most attractive in an
imported gown of dark blue georgette
with real lace and accessories to
match. Her corsage was of white orchids
and valley lilies.
Mrs. Heath is the youngest daughter
of Judge and Mrs. Mendel L.
Smith of Camden, and is a social
faVorite throughout the state. She
possesses a distinctive type of beauty
and charm and represents "one of
South Carolina's oldest and msot distinguished
families?for forbears having
been history makers of the state.
Mr. Heath is the only son of Mr.
and Mrs. William Pratt Heath, Sr.,
of Atlanta, (la. He is a graduate of
the University of Georgia and also
completed a special course at Co

and is one of the leading young business
men of Camden.
Mr. and Mrs. Heath left immediately
after the ceremony for an px
tended wedding trip and upon their
