Robert K. Lee, whose work "ah" a
scrivener is well known, has prepared
for presentation to the supreme court
of this state by the members of the
bar of the state a complete copy of
Chancellor Kent's lecture on the History
of the Americtin Union, taken
from Kent's Commentaries, The scroll
contains words, engrossed with
great clarity in a typical law hand.
Mr. liee having learned the art under
apprenticeship to a l?ndon law
years ago when this was the custom-,
ary manner of preparing legal documents.
The writing occupies a space of 42
inches long by 22 inches wide, and at
the foot ,are blanks for the signatures
of such attorneys as wish to participate
in the presentation. Most of the
attorneys of the bar of this county
have already signed the document and
it will soon be offered to attorneys in
other parts of the state for eigne*
ture. The scroll will be framed when
presented to the Supreme Court end

art that the coming typewriter has

Mr. Lee, a friendly and genial Char*
lestonian of the old school of Southern
gentleman, visited Camden last
week with this scroll, which is truly
a masterpiece in penmanship, for the
purpose of securing the signatures of
local attorneys to the interesting
parchment preparatory to presenting
it to the supreme court of South Carolina
in the near future. This scroll
will be a valuable and highly treasured
contribution to the highest tribunal
of the state. Not only is It a masterful
representation of what has become
a lost art in the busy world of
today, but also it contains and preserves
for future generations much
interesting and valuable history rcla~
tive to the American nation from the

until it became a giant among nation*.
For instance, one interesting bit of
history is revealed in the fact that at
one time in the early history of the
republic there were only about eighty
soldiers in the United States army.

of the niany thousands who will view
it in the state supreme court chamber
in Columbia as the years come" and
go. The scrivener of so outstanding
a masterpiece in penmanship is to he
heartily congratulated and commended
by the people of South Carolina
for his High motive and patriotism in
making this most worthy contribution
to the state.

claims Patterson, N. J., as home, are
under arrest in Charleston.
Pigeons Shipped
by Sumter Plant
. Sumter, S. C., Nov. 9.?What 1$
probably the largest shipment of plgeons
ever made in this etate went off
last Monday from tha Palmetto Pigeon
plant and consisted of 800 birds
to Del Hay, Fla., and 200 ty Ontario,
Canada. The shipment brought
into the plant more than $2,000, indicating
the big business the local
plant is doing in supplying breeding
stock to other points. The Del Ray,
Kla., shipment alone brought in move
than $1,500 as the birds were fancy
young pairs selected for utility and
show purposes combined.
The local plant, now six years old,

worth farmer, was killed last July.
The jury hearing the case last Thurt*
day returned a verdict of guilty with
a recommendation of mercy. Attorneys
for Mrs. Cathcart have not yet
announced their intention of taking
an appeal* ?
It is unnounced from Clinton that
up to November 12 a total of $90,000
has been pledged in the Presbyterian
college $350,000 deliverance
campaign.
