It consists of a small wire spring
that must have cost nearly 1 cent,
the- same being fastened to a tiny
piece of metal that surely stood them
close to 2 cents. Yet they offer this
"thing" for only 25 do?ars, Cash

June bug and tie him to my ear and
thus get all the vibration I want for
nothing. They resemble each other
very much in, every respect except in
the matter of first cost.

Make Bow in Business
New York, April 28.?A mechanical
device, known as the "business brain,"
which will simultaneously do the
work of a cash roister, booKkeepcr
ami adding machinea and, from
another part of the building, make a
complete record of a sale at the time
it is made, is about to make ita bow
in American industry.
Formation was announced today by
an investment banking grpup, headed
by Mend|?, Bell & Whitney, Inc., of
the Hofgaard-Remington corporation
to own and control the machine and
its system, which are covered by
world wide patents. The Remington
Arms company owns a substantial interest
in the new corporation and will
manufacture the machines at Bridgeport,
Conn.
The machine is the invention of a
young' Norwegian, .Rolf Hofgaard.
whose father, superintendent of art
institution for the deaf, dumb and
blind in Norway, devised a system
of instruction by touch alone which
was studied by Helen Keller. Hofgaard
will have a substantial interest
in the new company.
Experts say the Hofgaard machine
functions with absolute accuracy.
As the operator writes out
the invoice of a sale, for instance,
the machine?through its central
"brains," which may be located in
son^e other part of the building?will,
calculate and record the prices,
which are simultaneously added,
figure the discounts desired, recording
in proper classification the
discounts and net totals, multiply the
pounds and fractions in weights by
a fraction in price, and parts of the
calculation, and, at the end, give the
grand total of the various subtotals
of the columns. In addition to a4ding
and multiplying, it will perform
direct division and subtraction.
When the machine <is installed in a
bank it will be able to do the work
of nearly nine-tenths of the employes,
according to the Inventor. He cites
as an example the instance of a bank
which estimated that it would accomplish
its accounting and auditiong
with eight employes instead of the 67
now required.

Baton Rouge, La., May 16.?Without
one. ipord of testimony being
taken, the Louisiana Senate Court of
Impeachment today released Governor
Huey P. Long from charges of
high crimes and misdemeanors.
Jpst as the prosecution was ready
to put on its first witness, Senator
Phillip H. Gilbert, lawyer and planter
of Napoleonville and a long supporter,
presented to the court a written
motion to adjourn sine die. The
motion carried the signatures of fifteen
senators saying that regardless
of the testimony they would vote to
acquit, the governor as they considered
the impeachment proceedings'
illegal and unconstitutional. . . j
Faced with a certain loss of their :
case as the fifteen senators constitu- i
ted more than the one Third of the i
thirty'-nine membership of the sen- !
atej the prosecutors moved a recess ?
and called a caucus of the remaining j
24 senators.

four to ten years, after the latter had
entered a plea of second degree
forgery in connection with the closing
of a private bank conducted by

The "Burnum Institute of Science
and History," founded at Bridgeport,
Conn., 40 years ago by the famous
showman, will be sold for city taxes,
due to the fact that a part of the
building was rented to get* funds to
pay a janitor.
