the reault of being struck by an
automobile two weeks before.
Miss Marion Tallcy, Kansas
opera singer, made her farewell appearance
at Cleveland, Ohio, Saturday
night. She will retire to farm
life after four seasons of grand opera.

take the examinations if either of the
principal nominees fails to pass the
physical and mental testa. All those
nominated by DePriest are principal
candidates.

Negroes had ever been admitted to
the United States Naval academy
here, officials said tonight. None of
these completed the first year of the
course.
The trio was admitted from South
em states during the Reconstruction
period following the Confederate war,
when Negroes held political power in
several states.

Contributions Given
For Tornado Victims
A grand toUl of Ave hundred and
forty dollars has been reported M>.
this office offered as relief money for
the victim* of the tornado in ,\Ve$>
Wateree on Sunday afternoon of last
week in which one person lost her
life and many were injured. Four
houses were completely swept away
together with furniture, clothing and
food. There is need for more money
and if you have not made a contribution
send it to this office or leave at
the Williams Insurance Agency where
proper credit will be given. Aside
from the contributions in money we
learn that quite a good many people
have made gifts of furniture and
