At /our o'clock Friday last Troop
Two assembled at the High School
ground* and at 4:13 we started hiking
to Mills Point. Mr. Nettles, the
scoutmaster, was in command. Most
of the boys stopped at DuHose Park !
to buy drinks. Soon after we arrived
v at Mills Point the scoutmaster had
the scouts start gathering wood /or
the camp fire and called a meeting o/
the patrol leaders to arrange the

Claud Jackson, Dan Carrison, Jack
iiailu, Herman Jackson and Hamilton
Osborne. About Walter Jlhame
arrived and as dusk came on the
patrols lighted their cook-Ares and
had supper,
Kight after this the recruits were
initiated, after which the iieaver
patrol gave a short play in which

Allen Hardy was the hero or villian
and the whole patrol played the
babes in the woods which was greatly
vnjoyed by all.
Then all the recruits except Claude
and Herman were made tenderfeet in(
the ceremony of the candle board J
After this we built pyramids, signal i
towers, bridges and ocean wave and
dodged the smoke. After some singing
arul a couple of hue stories by
the scoutmaster we started home,
stopped at DuBose l'ark for water
and drinks and arrived at home about
10;.'tO o'clock. Twenty-five scouts were

The Hoy Scouts of Lugoff held
their weekly meeting Friday night,
the 2Uth. After roll call games were
played which were enjoyed by all.

died at 10:30 o'clock tonight at his
home here after a long illness.
Dr. Murray was born at St. George,
! S. <C., and wifs graduated from
Vanderbilt. He fcwgan hi# career as
! a practicing physician but soon
abandoned this to go into the drug
business. He had lived in Columbia
wince the curly eighties.
Dr. Murray is ' survived by his
widow 'and ftpjr children, Mrs. Henry
H. Harris, of Greenville; Mrs.
Arthur Thompkius, W. J. Jr.* and
l.ouis Murray, all of Columbia.

citizen of the eastern section of the
county, died at his home on route 2,

funeral and burial was held at Wesley)

Mr. Fields was a farrper and well
known in his section. He is survived
by his widow, who was Miss Mattie
Fields, and one son, Emmett Fields,'
residing >n Detroit,' Michigan. Mr.
Fields will leave soon to make her
home in Detroit with her only son.

Aid and Assist in Distributing Federal
Patronage in South Carolina
Washington.?In keeping with demands
made earlier in the week by
President Hoover and Postmaster
General Brown the personnel of the
special patronage committee for
South Carolina has been selected by
the administration here to function
in tilling all federal offices in the
state, it was announced here on
Saturday.
The committee is composed of eight
members, including live Republicans
and three' so-called Hoovererats, or
Democrats wlio voted the Republican
ticket in the last national election.
Headed by W. F. Brown of Charleston.
who will be chairman, the patronage
body will consist of the following:

Republican; W. H. Tarkington of St.
George, Hoovercrat; Walter C. Theile
of Jacksonboro, Republican; W. -R.
Hall of Greenville, Hoovercrat; F. B.
Chulkin of Florence, Republican; J.
Duncan Adams of Walhalla, Republican,
and L. D. Robinson of Sum-)

President Hoover himself has
studied the personnel of the com-!
mittee and ha? approved it. All
members are understood to have been
approached or. the subject already and
are thought to have signified their
willingness to serve. As chairman of
the special body, Mr. Brown will be
notified by administration officials
shortly and asked to take immediate
steps to perfect organization.
The committee, similar to one al!
ready set up in Florida and planned
| for practically all of the Southern
! !-tates, will serve not only as arbiter
in South Carolina patronage matters,
but will function in establishing the
much discussed re-organization which
President Hoover and Col. Horace A.
.Mann, pre-election Southern campaign
manager, have in mind for the South.
