"Ninety-eight per cent of , the " murderere' braina were inflamed with bootleg whiakey when they alayed their victima," he emphasized. He uaacrted that ignorance and illiteracy were outstanding causes of crime; substantiating hie statement , ^ by (.declaring that a survey made of institutions containing the unfortunate members of society indicated that only four to five per cent were college or university graduates, fifteen per cent were high school graduates, while eighty per cent never attended \ school. All Teachers Enrolled Washington, I). C., March 12, 11)21). ?All the teachers of the public schools of Hethune, South Carolina, have again taken membership in tho National Education Association. The report was received from the. superintendent of schools, J. C. Foster, at the Association's headquarters hero, by J. W. Crabtrce, executive secretary. This report of one hundred percent enrolment represents teachers who have enrolled for the third consecutive year. . In. a congratulatory letter to Superintendent Foster, Mr. Crubtree says: "We are proud of your record of continuous dne iiunded percent enrolment. It shows a fine leadership on your part and an excellent professional spirit on the part of your teachers. Congratulations to you all and success in your work for the cause of education. Singing Dog Dies Washington, March 5.?Bimbo, the only singing dog in captivity, died at the National Zoological Park. Cliff McCrary, 50-year-old plumber, wal Jound guilty -of the murder of Mrs. Rosa Davis, wife of 0. L. Davis, in general sessions court here today. The jury recommended mercy and Judge Hayne F. Rice, presiding, passed sentence of life imprisonment. Mrs. Davis was killed January 18 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Grace Darker, near here on the eve of her planned departure for Chester. Prosecution witnesses testified McCrary had threatened to kill the woman if she returned to her husband and admitted shooting her and then himself. McCrary testified the woman was shot accidentally while the two were having a friendly scuffle with a pistol and he shot himself because he loved her and wanted to die with her. The jury deliberated from 4 o'clock yesterday afternoon until 3 o'clock this morning. A Healthy Village Toenisberg, Germany, March 6.? Hunters find it practically impoaaible to get within range, and naturalists have found it difficult to make u atudy of it. Htribling Loeea Two Teeth. Macon, Ga., March 7.?Friends of W. L, Htribling learned recently that pus in two of Strlbllng'a upper front teeth necessitated their removal Monday. Doctors went over him thoroughly. The dislocated rib ia said to be troubling him. Mrlbling, Sr, told Macon News over the telephone that he appreciated the support they gave his son in. his fight. "I sure want to thank the Macon people for the wonderful support they gave us," he said. "Thert could not have been a better baud of boosters here and we all appreciate it. W.
