tages, all of whom enjoyed a delight-1

of six radio stations through

for the erection of four broadcasting

Col. Chas. A. Lindbergh, America's
most famous flyer, and his fiancee,
Miss Anne Morrow, met with a slight
mishap Wednesday at Mexico City in
landing, and J:he former suffered a
dislocated shoulder. Colonel Lindbergh
and Miss Morrow inspected
their wrecked monoplane at Valbuena
field last night leBS than one hour j
after the colonel had been under an
anesthetic for the purpose" of re-rat-1
ting his dislocated shoulder. An attempt
had been made to administer
the anesthetic at the American embassy,
but Lindbergh later in the
afternoon was taken to Lady Cowdray
Sanitarium, a British institute. At
5:45 p. m., he was brought back to
the embassy residence and appeared
to be entirely well. Thirty-five minutes
later he entered a motor car with
Miss Morrow and started for the flying
field.

at St. Mary's Hall, on Tuesday evening,
March 19th, at 8:30 o'clock, the

on sale by Junior Welfare Workers,

on at the Majestic Theatre next
Thursday evening at 9 o'clock. The
first picture begining at 7:30 and at
the conclusion of it the models displaying

merchants of Gamden will be seen.

Theatre there will be the
regular Thursday evening dance' at
the American Legion Hall, on DeKalb
street. Each couple pays 50
cents and good music is furnished.
These dances are sponsored by the
Legion Auxiliary and are proving
very popular with the young people

Camden Rotary Head Honored
Dr. J. W, Corbett was signally honored
at his home in this city Sunday,
when the Camden Rotary club, of
which he has been president since its
inception, called en masse to extend
greetings upon his birthday and to
present him, with a massive and
magnificent cake.

Fire destroyed a frame building at
Stat? Park housing 80 negroes of j
the South Carolina State hospital i

"An Evening in Dixie"
The people of Camden and many pf
our winter visitors who afforded themselves
of the opportunity -were
furnished an evening of delightful
entertainment on Thursday of last
| week when Mrs. Joel Si Aiken, of
Greenwood, dialect reader, singer and
impersonator, gave her audience at
the high school auditorium the treat
| of "An Evening in Dixie." Many of
Mrs. Aiken's selections were taken
from the works of Thomas Nelson
Page and Paul Denbar.
Mrs. Aiken, herself a writer of
recognition, possesses much ability at
a reader and interpreter of negro
dialect and the rendition as many of
her * selections bespoke an artist's
talent.
The picturesqueness which is eve**
synonimous with the writings of
such authors as those named was
supplemented with Mrs. Aikens costumes,
all of which were suggestive
of the early sixties in the South.
Negro spirituals added color" to the
plantation life so vividly portrayed
by the entertainer.
"An Evening in Dixie" was
sponsored by the Library Committee
of the High iSchool, which committee
is composed of Mips Etta Zemp,
chairman, ^Miss Agnes Corbett, Miss
Ella Dunn, and' Mrs. Dan Mufchison.
Book Club Entertained"!
The jtirkwood Book Club was entertained
at its meeting for this- week
by Mrs. T. Lee Little at her home,
Sarafield,?on Thursday morning. The
gueftt! here enjoyed" a delightfully entertaining
hour. Mrs.' Little's mother,
Mrs. C. H. Gruver, of Middletown,
Virginia, was the guest of the club

The March meeting of the John D.
Kennedy Chapter United Daughters
of the Confederacy was held at the
home of Mrs. W. Robin Zemp with
Mrs, John T. Nettles as assistant
hostess. The rooms and hall were
attractive with vases of lovely jonquils
which gave one the feeling of
spring.

read minutee of the last meeting.
Resolutions of respect were read
and adopted on the death of Mrs.
