Stewart with his aidea are making
every preparation possible for efficient
handling of all Christmas
mailts. lie feela that with the cooperation
of the public the work of
the postal employe# will be greatly
facilitated and will prevent any congeation
of maila either coming in or
going out. x
Mr. Stewart maklhs^the following
suggestion* for the ChrTfrtmas maila:
Wrapping and packing?All parcels
muat be securely wrapped and packed,
using strong paper and heavy twine.
Perishables?Articles likely to spoil
within the time resonably required
for transportation and delivery will
not be accepted for mailing. Other
perishables should carry a special
delivery stamp.
Address?addresses should be complete
and a return card placed in the
upper left hand corner of the parcel.
Address does not necessarily have to
appear on but one side of the parcel.
Early Mailing?during the holiday
season the volume of mkil increases
approximately 200 per cent, making
it physically impossible to handle this
great mass of mail matter efficiently
and promptly within a few days.
Therefore to insure delivery of Christmas
presents, cards, letters by
Christmas day the public should mad
early. Mr. Stewart recommends that
the public could help much by doing
the bulk of their mailing at least ten
days before the 25th.
Any information desired from
postal authorities regarding Christmas
mails, rules and regulations,
can be obtained at the window of the
local postofflce. Bulletins will oe
posted in conspicuous -places in the
lobby of the postofflce.
GENERAL NEWS NOTES
Four bank bandits robbed the First
National bank of Tarfford City, Pa.,
of $18,000 last Friday and kidnapped
the cashier as well. The cashier waB
rescued several hours later when two
of the bandits were arrested and a
part of the loot recovered.
Thomas J. Jones, who died at the
Confederate home in Columbia Saturday
night, was 07 years old and his
home was in Ix?e county. He was a
retired farmer who had been in the
home only a shorti time, and is survived
by one son, T. W. Jones, of
Bishopville, where the funeral was
field. He enlisted March 15, 1862,
and belonged to Co.. D, Ninth South
Carolina volunteers.
Mrs. S. R. Young of Sumter, found
a drawer robbed of a $1,000 diamond,
she found on the floor a tiny bit of
steel and saved it. It fit the broken
knife blade of a negro named Roosevelt
Smith, who confessed and told
the officers where the diamond could
be found. Tne diamond ring was recovered
from the finger of u little negro
girl wearing it casually in the
cutskirts pt town, without suspecting
its value.

leader and several times a millionaire,
was married to Count Folke Bernadotte,
a nephew of the King of
Sweden, at Pleasantvillc, N. Y.,
-Saturday afternoon. It was n gorgeous
affair and the wedding and subsequent
reception is said to have cost
three-fourths of a million dollars.
Many policemen were employed to
protect the thousands oi dollars
worth of jewelry worn by the guests.
A^bout 1,500 people attended the reception.
L. J. Dinkier, founder of a chain
of Southern hotels bearing his name,
shot himself through the heart in the
engine room of the Piedmont hotel
in Atlanta Friday night.

milk cow of J. P. Guess, of Appleton,
was 'run over and killed by
the special bearing the roudway in-1

The engineer stopped the train, and
while observing the body, which was
badly mutilated, he with others were
greatly astonished to see emerge a

sniffing the breeze with evident delight
ut his advent into a new world,
the.Caesarian fashion. After a chase
the newcomer was wrapped up and
delivered to its owner, who is now
engaged in a new method of feeding
a calf by bottle.
C. C. Coddington Head
^Charlotte, Dec. 3.?C. C. Coddington,
nationally known automobile
dealer and for 20 years a resident of
Charlotte died suddenly last night at
Harbor Island off the North Carolina
coast. A telephone message from
Moorehead City at 9 o'clock this
morning was the first information to
reach relatives and friends here.
Death was due to heart trouble, the
message said.
Charles S. Wallace, of Moorehead
City telephoned news of the death
to Lee Folger, associated with Mr.
Coddington in the executive management
of the Buick Automobile Distriction
headquarters here. Mr. Folger
at once sent a funeral coach to
Moorehead City for the body. 4
Mr. Coddington left CharlQtte Friday
morning for Hatteras on a duck
hunting expedition.
The dead man was a native of
Woodbury, N. J. He was 50 years
old.
Death of Mrs. Nettie Ellis
Lugoff, S. C., Dec. 3.?Mrs. Nettie
Ellis, aged 37, died at a Columbia
hospital on November 15th after an
illness lasting over a period of three
years. She had made her home near
Lugoff for many years and had made
a host of friends. Mrs. Ellis was
born near Westville and it was there
she joined Hickory Head church
about twenty-five years ago. She was
endowed with many lovable traits of
character and was widely known. Her
death has caused much sorow. Surviving
her are her husband, William
Ellis, and one daughter, Myrline,
four sons, J. W Curtis, Albertus and
Roscoe. She is also survived by her
father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. J.
W. Owens, and three brothers and
three sisters.
The death of this dear wife and
mother brings sadness to many hearts'
and the -family has wide-spread
sympathy in their sorrow.
