Mr. Daniels were traveling.
Reports from Charleston are to tho
effect that the meteor was seen there. *

The steamer Mohawk of the Clyde
line, outward bound, collided with
the Jefferson of the Old Dominion
line, inward bound, and both vessels
were considerably damaged. The Mohawk's
passengers were transferred
to other vessels which stood by. >j

Marquette railroad system is to be
consolidated witlwthat of the Chesapeake
& Ohio, making a system of

Little Girl Instantly Killed i

Jones, five-year-old daughter of Mr.
and Mrs, R. Fleming Jones, was in- ;
stantly killed tonight when a lawn
swing .in the Jones yard on North
Main street gave way, a post falling
across the child's head. Five or six
children were in the swing at the time
but no others were hurt. Mrs. Jones
was on the porch at time of the
accident and was the first to reach the |
child, but death was almost instan-1
taneous. ' '
The Jones family is one of the most
popular and prominent in Laurens
and the tragic death of their little
girl Is greatly deploreclf

by a mob at Center, Shelby county,
Texas, yesterday .morning, for a murder
committed May 12. The negro
was hanged to the same limb tnat

Robert W. Stewart, chairman of
the board of the Standard Oil company
of Indiana, must stand trial on
a charge of refusing to answer Questions

Mrs. Myrtle Huddleston of Mattoon,
111., on yesterday morning was
taken from a Chicago swimming pool
after breaking the world's swimming
record. She was in the water 60
hours, 10 minutes, 15 4-5 seconds.
Lieut L. E. Pickard flow from
Rock Hill to Richmond, Va., in three
hours last week with. Sidney Adams,
of Rock Hill, aH a passenger. Aviator
Pickard is the man who has been
flying arpund here for some time and .
was on his way home to Rochester,
N. Y.
E. P. Vandivef, president of the
Carolina National bank of Anderson,
was made president of the bankers
association of the third congressional
district at its recent meeting. Mr.
Vandiver is on the advisory board of
the Federul Reserve bank of Richmond,

C. M. Guest, a contractor and builder
of Anderson, died Sunday night
aged 60 years a few hours after a
stroke of paralysis.
