AN ORDINANCE To Require the Payment of Licent* on Jiuxiue**, Or-rupationa, and Prot chhioiix in the < T y of Camden, S. for the } ear From May 1. 1928 to May I, 1929. lie it ordained by the Mayor and f'ounrilmeti of the < ity of Camden, in < ouncil ushcnibted and by the authority of the Knme. Section 1. Kvery person, firm, company, or corporation, engaged on May 1, 192k, in any culling, business, profession or occupation in wliole or in part within t he city of Camden, as may la- hereinafter Hj>ecifted, a ha.'I obtain during the month of May, 1928, a license therefor in the manner hereinafter prescribed. Kvery person, firm, company f or corporation commencing business in said city on or before the first day of May, 1928, shall in like manner obtain u license therefor In-fore entering upon such calling, business, profession or occupation as hereinafter specified. Section 2. Kvery person, hrm, company or corporation engaged in or intending to engage in any calling, business, profession or occupation for which a license is required, shall apply to the Clerk and Treasurer of the City of Camden for the same? by whom all such licenses shall be issued, and ahull at the time of apply-, ing, make and sign a written statement under oath, and file it with the suid Clerk uiul Treasurer, setting forth: hirst, his or her or its name or sty le, the name of the persons'Constituting such firm or company. Second. The calling, business, profession or occupation for which li cense is required. Third, the place where such calling, business, profession or occupation is to be carried on; the amount of capital invested, or the gross annual income. Parties in business on the first of May, shall inuke such application for new license and file such written statement before May 21st. Section 3. A penalty of fifteen per cent shall be added to all licenses which are not paid during the moifth of May, 1928, except such as may become due after that time. Provided, however, that immediate payment may be required in eueh and every case at the discretion of the said Clerk and Treasurer, and the foregoing provision shall in no wise stay or hinder action to enforce immediate payment; which tax and pen-1 alty shall be recovered in the manner hereinafter prescribed, and if any person, firm, company or corporation required so to do by the terms of this ordinance ahull refuse or neglect to make out und deliver to the Clerk and Treasurer of the City of Camden, on or before the time heroin required, the statement provided for by Section 2 of this ordinance, or shall make a false statement, or shall refuse to take and subscribe an oath or affirmation as to the truth of such statement, or any part thereof; <" from any cause shall fail to take! out such license as may be required by this ordinance, the said Clerk mil 1 reinsurer shall report the case to ttie Ma) or, who shall proceed to ascertain as nearly as possible, the business of sueh person, firm, company, or corporation, for which he, she, or it may be liable to a license tax therefor, and in case of default for the purpose of such investigation; the said Clerk und Treasurer shall notify the person, firms, companies or corporation in default to appear before the Mayor at his office?at a time Stated in said notice; and also sui h witnesses a> the Mayor may desire to examine. And pr. vided further that any person, firm, company or corporation who shad carry on. or attempt to v arrv on a v calling, business, profession or oc, a pat ion without a license as herein required, or who shall neglect or re fuse to give the information requ.r- 1 or to answer such questions as may be required or who shall fail to attend before the Mayor to be exam ed by him when so required, as provided in Sections 2 and 3 of this ordinance may bo deomed guilty of a violation thereof before the Municipal Court and may be fined not more than One Hundred Dollars, or be imprisoned not exceeding thirty days. Section 4. All license granted under this ordinance shall be posted ir a conspicuous place, except in case of vehicles for hire, which vehicles shall have placed upon them metal badge; -~ : .fc*'v ->v . with the number of budge* and the license year marked thereon, such | i>adges to be furnished by the Clerk and Treasurer uuon payment of the J license tax. Failure to display such budges will subject the person* own-! ing or using the same to a penalty' not more than Five Dollars or im-1 prisonment not exceeding ten days.' The license granted under this ordinance shall at all times be subject to inspection by any officers of the City of < amden and no calling, business, profession or occupation shall be carried on elsewhere than the place named in this 1 icense' therefor, unless authority la- granted by the Clerk and Treasurer, which authority shall he endorsed on the license. Section f>. All licenses granted under this ordinance shall continue in force until the first day of May A. D. 1020, except such as are written for a shorter period, us may hereinafter he provided. The City Council reserves the right to revoke any licenses for any cause which to them may seem to l>e just. Section 6. The following sum or sums of money are required to la* paid to the said Clerk and Treasurer for a license to carry on the business, calling, profession or occupation in whole or in part within the limits of the City of Camden, as in each case specifically appears. Class No. 1 Business or income basis, $1,000. On each additional $1,000, ten cents per $ 1,000. Where the gross annual income from the business, callings, or professions enumerated in the following schedule, .shall be One Thousand Dollars or less, the license shall be at the rate set forth in said schedule; und where the gross annual income exceeds One Thousand Dollars, the license shall bo increased from the amount set forth in said schedule at the rate of ten cents for each Thousand Dollars of gross income in excess of One Thousand Dollars. Said hucksters or pedlers not to take a stand, and not to sell on prohibited streets hereinafter mentioned. Each wagon or truck used by said huckster or peddler to constitute a separate business. Each huckster or peddler to be furnished with a budge upon taking out license. Hucksters or peddlers selling freBh meats of any kind on wagons, trucks, each per year 40.00 (No license to be prorated.) No huckster or person selling fresh meats, fowls, fruits, vegetables, merchandise, manufactured articles, melons, eggs, or other farm produce may sell same on DeKalb Street from Church Street to Market Street, or on Broad Street from LaFayette Street to York Street, on Hutledge from Church Street, to Lyttleton Street. Wholesale deliveries of meats and fowls to retail meat markets may be made on said prohibitive areas. All such wagons from which said fresh meats may be sold during every month of the year except December, January, kebruary, to keep the meats on said wagons in refrigerators of sufficient capacity to carry the said stock and all portions of said wagons not taken up by refrigerators to be screened and said refrigerator at all times kept in a sanitary condition, subject at all times to inspection by the health officer, or any one designated by him. No license for sale of such meats in wagons on streets is to be granted by the City without the application first being submitted and approved by the health officer of the City of Camden.
