Youth Fall* To Death
Stone Mountain, Ga., March 27.- A
17 year old youth who ventured too
close to the north precipice of Stone
Mountain plunged 800 feet to his
death Sunday while several hundred
sights<H>rs viewing the Confederate
mounment on the mountain stood
horror stricken
The youth. L. C. Lank ford of Atlanta,
with two companions, had
climbed to the top of the mountain
and was playing near the edge-of the
precipice, witnesses said. Suddenly
Lankford was aeen to slip on the oblique
surface- of the mountain, lose
his footing, reach futilely for a hold
and then go hurtling into apace.
His body was crushed beyond recognition
on the jAgged rocks at the
base of the mountain.
The accident occurred several hundred
feet nqrth of where the figure
of General Robert E. Lee la being
carved.

Wife Deserter Sentenced
To 12 Months

Donald Abernethy of Mooresville, who
once preached at States ville, chargeo
with abandoning hi* young wife, Mrs.
KJizabelh Casque Abernethy, daughter
of < ongreasmait and Mr*. A. H.
(jaswilh- of Florence, S. C\, wait *en|
tenced to 12 month* on the Iredell
(county road* at a trial here Monday.
The sentence was appealed and appeara'
-e l>ond ?et ut $100.
Judge A. I., Starr, in recorder's
court, where the case was heard, imposed
the sentence to l>ecoine effective
at once unless Abernethy arranged
to contribute $fiO a month for
his wife's support. The appeal, however
stayed the sentence. The rehearing
was set for the May term of
Iredell superior court.
Mrs. Abernethy took the witness
stand to testify before a crowd that
two week* ago, when she went to
Mooresville to live with her husband
fu- refused to speak to her.
The state board of pharmacy examiners,
which grants license* to
practice to pharmacist*, ha* elected
R. C. Garland, of GafTney, its president,
vice-president W. FT Boyd, of
Columbia. Frank M. Smith, the reelected
secretary, ha* held that position
more than a score years. Ai
the meeting six men parsed the examination
out of nine applicants,
which is a higher per centage than i*
usual.

I/orick Fatally Injured
Columbia, March 28.?Donald A.
Lorick, 19, died in a hospital here late
tonight of injuries suffered an hour
before when the light roadster in
which he was driving with Jack Pike,
18-year-old son of Dr. J. A. S. Pike, of
Columbia, skidded into a ditch on the
Broad River road a short distance
inside the Columbia city limits.

A special Easter Program will be
given at Sunday School Sunday morning.
The program will be given by
the Seniors under the direction of
Mrs. William King. 'We hope every
member of the church will come and
see this Resurrection pageant. The
offering will be given to Ministerial
Relief and Christian Education.

The monthly meeting of Sunday
School workers will be held on Wednesday
evening, April 11, at eightthirty

tee consisting of T. Lee Little, L. T.
Mills and the Pastor, will arrange
the program. The hour is eight
o'clock.
Monday evening, April 9, at eight
o'clock, Congaree Presbytery meets in
Bethe-sda church. Members of this
church are urged to attend all public
sessions. Especially the first session
Monday evening. 'We want to give
Presbytery a cordial reception. Din- i
ner will be served on Tuesday by the
Ladies and the men of the church will
provide an auto ride through the city
at 5:30 Tuesday afternoon.
To give all an opportunity to attend
the Easter Cantata at the Methodist
church the Senior Christian
Endeavor will have their meeting
Sunday April 8, at seven o'clock.
Miss Caroline Houser is leader and
the topic is "Christ is Risen."
Boynton J. Moore, city councilman!
of Indianapolis, Ind., has been found!;
guilty of bribery and sentenced to I
prison for two to fourteen years.
Tolberfs Slayer
Will Get Death
Appaling, Ga., March 28.?Twenty
minutes after retiring to consider the
case, a jury in superior court here
late today returned a verdict of
"guilty as charged" agaiirst Burley
Adams, on trial charged with murdering
Walter R. Tolbert, a federal
prohibition agent, on February
22. He was sentenced to die in the
electric chair on May 1.
Adams' face blanched as the verdict
was announced, but otherwise
showed no emotion, but his wife and
mother collapsed. After the verdict
had been read Adams turned to his
wife and held her close to him, while
sobs racked her body.

for sentence he rose, looked at the
judge while the death
