it pays to hog down corn, the experience
of Boyd Atkinson and It. II.
Baxley showing that $50 to $60 is
the not return per acre.
"We had a meeting at a result
demonstration this month at Boyd
Atkinson's farm as a result of hogging
down corn," says Mr. Wells in
speaking of this work. "Mr. Atkinson
had kept a strict account of the
cost of feeding his 15 hogs, which
weighed 1180 pounds and h&d coat
him $107.61, including the cost of
feeding his brood sows for six
months. Figuring the value of these
hogs at 10 .cents per pound, Mr.
Atkinson hud left $110.40. The hogs
gained 872 pounds on an acre of
corn, making an average daily gain
of 81 pounds per hog. * The cost
of labor, fertilizer, land rent, and
supplement feed while oil this corn
cost $86.56, which gave Mr. Atkinson
a net return above land rent for
an acre of corn hogged down, of
$51,64.
"Mr. Baxley, a neighbor, also hud
good results with 16 hogs. He had
corn and beans planted in the same
drill. The corn was hogged down
returning $60.00 per acre, and 95
percent of the beans were still standing.
Mr. Baxley figures that this
method is the inoBt practical and
economical for farmers to use. He
states that he expects to have a continuous
cropping system in. order
that his hogs will have something to
be hogging down the entire time."

' The chicken supper that was
planned by the social committee of
the B. Yv P. U. was carried out as
a decided success when a number of
older members of the church gathered
with the younger people to enjoy
the good time at Adam's pond Friday
evening.
Last Sunday evening Mfss Helen
Phelps, captain group No. 1, rendered
a very interesting program. Those
taking part on the program were
Misses Laurie Cnmpbell, Martha
Oglesby, Lois Elmore and Mr. Moseley.
Special music wus given by' the
orchestra and the Bible quizz, directed
by M iss Mary Graham, wus highly

This week, group No. 2 under the
leadership of Miss Annabelle Watts
will have charge of the program.
