Farewell Party Given '

who will sail for France this week
on a visit to their daughter, Mrs.
Sumner Waite, formerly Miss Elizabeth
Carrison.
A seven-course dinner was served
on a beautifully appointed table centering
which was a miniature ocean,,,
surrounded by moss and fir trees and
bearing upon its bosom a miniature
steamship with its funnels belching
forth the smoke of incense and flying
the American flag. On the opposite
shore were two welcoming figures
under the French flag with arms outstretched.
The place cards were suit
cases with Paris labels, borne by porters.
The guests were Mr. and Mrs.
IH. G. Carrison, Sr., Mr. and Mrs.
H. G. Carrison, Jr., Mr. and Mrs. William
Mayfield, Mr. and Mrs. Ray
Smith, of Florence, and Mrs. Pitts,
mother of the host, of Laurens.
Recital*Enjoyed By Many

and Mrs. Frank Chapman of the
Jnubiq^ department of the Camden
oobooi* held their annual recital. The
music was good, showing the progress
of the scholars. Besides piano music
there were songs and numbers on ~tho
violin. The increased number of beginners
speaks well for the musical
future of Camden which has never
been a musical center although some
of her sons and daughters have been
wonderful singers and musicians and
it is well that the art is becoming
more general.
Honored With Dinner and Dance
Dr. and Mrs. R. E. Stevenson gave
a delightful dinner at Crescent Lake
club last Thursday night. This dinner
was in honor of their house guest and
ja few friends among them being:

color scheme and this was also carried
out in the refreshments* On

for Sumter for a visit.

He says he likes his new home in

Mr. and Mrs. Laurens Mills, who
attended the graduation of their
daughter, Miss Margaret Mills, at
Converse College have returned,
bringing with them Miss Helen Savage,
who is also a student there.
Mrs. Ralph Hall of High Point,
N. C., formerly Miss Sara Myers of
this city came down this week to
attend the . commencement exercises
of the city schools, Miss Esca Myers,
her sister, being a member of the
graduating class.
Mr. and Mrs. A. Sheheen spent Sunday
in Columbia with friends. On
their return they were accompanied
by Mrs. F. Moses and children of
\ aldosta, Ga., arid Miss Katherine
Kossa of Columbia who will be their
house guests.
After a few days spent with Mr.
Blakeney's mother, Mr. and Mrs.
James Blakeney, whose marriage ^ast
week was among the prominent socia|
affairs in Macon, left Camden fori
Atlanta, whehj they will make their
future home.
Mr. and Mrs. Miller Boykin arrived
in Camden on Saturday night. Mr.
Boykin is in Orangeburg at present
and Mrs. Boykin, formerly Miss Elizabeth
DuBose, is doing splendid work
as county demonstration agent in the
low country. It will be remembered
that Mrs. Boykin was the Kershaw
county demonstration worker for several
years and only left to join her
husband who was in Florida.

Entertained For Golfer*
A number of golfers of the Sum:er
Qountry club were in Camden last
rhursday afternoon for a match game
with golfers of the Camden Country
dub.- After the games the visitors
were entertained with a luncheon at
the Crescent Lake club where covers
were laid for around fifty guests.
The Sumter golfers, twenty strong,
were forced to take the small end of
the score which was 37 to 17. Hubert
Osteen, playing a strong game for
Sumter, made a hole in one on number
seven. This is the first time this
feat has been accomplished.
Judge K. D. Blakeney of Camden
made a birdie on the nineteenth tc
win his match. Camden wfll give
Sumter a return match next Thursday,
June 9.

was convicted of manslaughter at Los
Angeles, Cal., Wednesday after a
trial of several days on the charge of

i ago. Conviction carries a penalty of
one to ten years in prison.
Walter M. Folsom, well-known
retired merchant of Sumter, died
at his home at 2:15 o'clock Tuesday
morning from a sudden heart attack.
