Furthermore, transportation to and
from the camp, and food and uniform
while at the camp, are all supplied by
the government.
Bed Cross Director lulled
Baton Rouge, .May 30.?Karl Kilpatrick,
chief of iehahilitation of the
American Red Cross, was killed when
the seaplane OU-15, in which he was
a passenger en route from Memphis
to New Orleans, crashed in a field at
Hohen, 'JO miles south of here this
afternoon. Lieut. Joe Oregory, naval
i aviator, piloting the plane, was unhurt.
Lieutenant Gregory was quoted as
saying the plane "slipped from under
him and went into a nose dive, crashing
into the field." Lieutenant Gregory
was uninjured and proceeded to
New Orleans in an automobile.

I The examination for the award of
i vacant Scholarships in Winthrop College
and for admission of new' studi
ents will be held at every County
Court House in the state on Friday,
July 1, and Saturday, July 2, at 9 a.m.
This examination will be held whether
there are vacant scholarships or not,
as vacancies may occur after the examination.
Applicants must not be
less than sixteen years of age. When
scholarships are vacant after July 1
they will be awarded to those making
the highest average at this examination,
providing they meet the
conditions governing the award. All
who wish scholarships should attend
the examination whether there are
vacancies or not. Applicants for
Scholarships should write to President
Johnson before the examination
for Scholarship blanks.
Scholarships are worth $100 and

Senator Cooper Loses Home
Sumter, May '27.-?The home of
Robert M. ( ooper, former state senator
from Lee county at Wisacky, 20
miles from here, was burned to the
ground early this morning. The
house was a total loss, but some of
the furniture and household belongings
were saved. The origin of the
fire is not known.
