GA. . f : Johnson Again Uc-Fleeted Mat ion, Jan. 27.?-In the Democratic primary of Tuesday Muyor I'. W. Johnson, for the fifth time, was nominated for mayor, winning over his opponent, Mr. R. Sloan, by a vote of 348 to 142. All *lhe present aldermen of the city were re- , elected without opposition. The polls opened promptly at 8 am. and the voting continued steadily and quietly until closing time in the afternoon. Mr. Johnson was first elected mayor of Marion January, 191b, und was reelected in 1917 and 1919. He was defeated by Mtf. George G. McKerall in 1921, but defeated Mr. McKerall in 1925, and Tuesday for the fifth time was chosen by the citirens of Marion to head the city government for another term of two years. 4 Geta $1,000 Tip A check for $1,000 was the "tip" received by Harry Carter, Thompson Transfer company starter at the Francis Marion Hotel, for his courtesies to a wealthy Canadian tourist, it was learned yesterday. Besides this the tourist, whose name was not divulged, during his four days in the city, gave the starter other "tips" amounting to approximately $125. Just before leaving the wealthv Canadian called Mr. Carter to his room in the hotel, thanked him for his courtesies and handed him an envelope containing the check for $1,000. ?Friday's News and Courier.
