Rumors of more 'urgent reason* for the "Bishop's" leaving than the absence pf crowds were general but unconfirmed. Much excitement and interest has been evidenced since white robed men, supposedly members of the Ku Klux Klan, passed slowly by the BishopV tent in the negro quarter Frtdiy night. Assistants of the "Bishop" said that he will conduct services in a large tobacco warehouse at Winston-Salem and plans to conduct services later in a tobacco warehouse at Katyigh, N. C. The Portuguese has been the center of much publicity since his sensational appearance at Charlotte, N. With the coming of cooler weather, we find many little children as well as adults without sufficient warm clothing for the winter. Contributions uf clothing for babies, children or" adults will be appreciated. There is also need for a crib for a baby five months old. Mrs. May field at 205 or Mrs. Brown at 040 and they will be collected. ? Mrs. Louise M. Brown. Cheater Lad Dies of Injuries Chester, Oct. 15.?Ralph Campbell, 10-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. F. L. Campbell, who was gravely injured over a month ago when the bicycle that he and a boy friend were riding tandem, collided with an automobile, said to have been driven by a woman, died at Pryor hospital Friday. The accident created quite a sensation because the boy, whom everybody highly esteemed, was said to have been hurled to the asphalt street," fracturing his skull, spilling some of his brains, while tho woman made her get-away as quickly as possible It is reported here that officcTa have remarked that -*tiiey "have excellent clues as the party that collided with the boys and this information, if correct, will probably be brought out at the-mtjuest which will be held by Coroner J.' Henry Gladden in Jhe.ncnr future-, He cm-' paneled a jury Friday. Arrested For Breach of Trust. M. J. Frederick Esq.. one of the negro attorneys of this city, has been arrested pn the charge of breach of trust with fraudulent intent. A preliminary hearing which was to have been held last Thursday was waived by Frederick, and he was remanded to jail. I)r. Birnie and others supplied the bond, which was $700, and he was released Saturday. The action was brought by Dr. W. L. Sellers, a negro doctor of F16rence, who claims that Frederick collected the sum of $647.90 , from the receiver of the Equitable Trust Company in April, 1923, and bad not yet turned:the money over to Sellers.? With internal injuries sustained from the ? wreck? Jimmy Smith of Liberty Hill is not expected to live, according to reports from Heath Springs, where the accident victim was taken. C. C Stroup, also of Liberty Hill, was said to have received two broken ribs, but bis condition was not believed to be serious. Both men are said to be employees of the Southern Power company. " Candidate For Governor in l>ate Primary in Auto-Wagon Smash. Columbia, October 15.?Carroll D. Nance of Cross Hill, chairman of the wuys and means commtitce of the 75th general assembly of South Carolina, 'and a candidate this year for the Democratic nomination for governor, wan painfully, though not believed seriously injured, about 7 o'clock last night, when the automobile he was driving crashed into the rear of a wagon loaded with hay, 11 miles from Columbia on the Broad Kiver road, as he was driving Westward from Columbia. The crash carried the wagon and team of mules for the distance of 70 to 100 feet, disemboweling and almost instantly killing one of the mules, and injuring to some extent James Lorlck of Irmo, who was on the wagon, and Man Freshly, negro, of near Irmo, who was also on the wagon. Infor-n iiiation from some of the witnesses near the scene of the wreck last night was to the effect that Mr. Lorick had evidently suffered injuries about the back and was unable to walk, although this information could not be confirmed late laBt night. Mr. Nance suffered a6y$re frrq frees about the head and body, and several deep and painfuf lacerations about the face, hands and head, which required several stitches to close, His condition late lust night* according to attending physicians and attendants at the Baptist hospital ,to which institution he was brought soon after the accident, was considered satisfactory. Bandits Kill and Rob. Elizabeth, N. J., Oct. 18.?Bandits armed with sawed off shotguns held up a mail truck under police escort in the business district Saturday morning and killed one man and wounded two others. The dead man was John Enz, an employee of the Elizabeth postoffice who was in charge of the truck. Jno. Quinn, also a postoffice employee, was wounded and Motorcycle . Patrolman Ohristman, who wus escorting the truck, w?as knocked from his machine when one of the bandits cars collided with him. He w#S shot as he lay on the ground. The bandits got away. It is believed -there 'wore ten or -more in the party. They occupied two automobiles. A payroll of $1(50,000 consigned to the Elisabeth Port .Banking company and intended for the Singer Sewing Machine company was obtained in the Elizabeth mall robbery, according to reports reaching this city. The army mule is still an integral part of?the United States army, the War Department having recently set aside $20,000 for*?the purchase of these worthy animals at $106 a head. ?
