The Bethune baseball team went to
Jefferson Tuesday Afternoon for a
game. Several innings .were jilayed
when the game waS'ltopped by rain.
Cashing Strangers' Checks Often
Costly,
"Honor thy father and thy mother,
but not strangers' checks" is ?oen in
well-regulated banking institutions,
and this advice seems to be more pertinent
about this time than ever before.
i Giving checks on banks where
'no accounts are held by those who
/give. the checks is a rather dangerous
pastime, and the law provides drastic
penalties.

South Carolina Bankers' Association,
has issued the follownig statement:
"|fcebori has come to the . office of
the secretary from tfie Bank of Darlington
to the effect that some ctlc recently
gave fourteen checks hi favor
of a total of $224.08 to Columbia merchants,
Various names were signed
to these checks, in every case, the
name being that of a woman.
"The I^ank ?of Darlington reports
that no sitch accounts are fisted on lbs
books. The same game has been
worked in Bennettsville. v ft seems
that most of these checks are being
given by young women iand girls who
represent themselves as out-of-towi^

Young Boy Drowns
Anderson, June 30.?Nye Entrekin,
14-year-old soiy.of Mr.. and Mrs. - W N.
Entrekin, was drowned this afternoon
in a lake three miles west of .the
city.. _Fp.ur young boys were m the
lake together, Nye Entrekin, Jim
Baldwin, Jr., Edward Mason and
Fred Green, when Nye swam out in

deep water, and soon called for 'help.

By the time help .came it was too
late. An ambulance with experts and.
pulmotors Wag rt&hed out from the
city, and . worked on .the boy for an
hour without reviving.him.Then he was
taken to a local hospital, but he
could not be resuscitated.
