John Thrift, 40, has been arrested

sesquicentennial of the battle
of Fort Moultrie is to be observed in
Charleston on June 26, 27 and 28.
Elaborate programs for the celebrai
tion have been prepared and large
numbers of visitors are expected to
visit Charleston on the occasion of
celebration.

Sandy River near Portland, Oregon,

"After arguing the matter, of price
for quite a while, the clothier said,
"It will take $75 to buy that suit."
While Ikey was hesitating his wife
spoke up and said, "Oh, Ikey, give
the man his $75. Don't be so Scotch!"

appreciate the terrible afflictions of
our people following the civil war:
There were 63 members of the general
assembly, 50 of whom were no*
groes or mulattoes, and 13 white men.
Twenty-two were able to read and
write (only eight grammatically)
and the remaining 41 make their
marks with the aid of u stenographer.
Nineteen of the 63 paid taxes in some
amount, their aggregate taxes
amounting to $146.10, while the other
44 paid no taxes at all.

ha? opined u campaign office in Columbia,
in charge of Charles E. .Jackson,
secretary to Senator Smith.
