Broke Handless Arms
Dr. R, T. Vaoji, qf Raleigh, one of
the leading Baptist ministers of the
state and a former president of Meridith
college is as everyone who
knows him, minus both hands. In
spite of this affliction the doctor is
art expert at firing a gun and often
goes on a hunting expedition and
bags as much game as those with
him that have two good hands. He
can feed himself, dress himself and
has accomplished far more in life
than the average man with two
hands.
The good doctor's friends will be
distressed to learn that a few days
ago while crossing a congested street
in the city of Raleigh, looking out
for automobiles he tripped over a
wire which was stretched around a
grass plot ?betwfcen the sidewalk and
the curbing and fell on the paved
sidewalk, breaking the arm which
was of most use to him was broken.
It was found also there was a fractured
bone in the other arm and
while he was under the influence of
an anesthetic both arms were operated
on. He is doing very well and
physicians think he will be in better
condition than he has been since
he lost both hands, which were crushed
in-a cane mill when h6'was a boy.
While -he has suffered, and still suffers,
great pain, he is as cheerful as
usual and enjoys the visits of his

GENERAL NEWS NOTES
Iriih Clansmen from every part of
the United States and' Canada, gathered
in Atlanta, Ga., Wednesday to
enact one of America's strangest
burial rites. The occasion was the
annual funeral of the Irish horse
traders, held each April. Because of
their wanderings the clans bury their
dead only once a year in order that
all may be present at the ceremony.
Rfc-hard Reese Whittemoore, bandit,
who was on trial at Buffalo, N. Y.
the past several days, and on whose
case the jury was unable to agree
on a murder charge, will be returned
to Baltimore, Md., where he will be
tried on a charge of killing a prison
guard.
Chicago prohibition officers seized
a carload of 34,400 bottles of Canadian
beer early Tuesday motning. The
boer was^ hidden under a carload of
lumber.
A jury at Jersey City, N. J., this
week awarded $10,000 damages for
the loss of one eye of an 8-year-old
boy, and another jury awarded a
mother a verdict of $7,600 for the
lbss of the life of her 18-year-old
son.
Daniel Corkery, 27, has been arrested
by Philadelphia police, under
suspicion that he is responsible for
the murder of Mrs. Thomas J. Walsh,
50, whose body was found last Wednesday
with her face and throat
flashed, a handkerchief stuffed in her
mouth and her body thrust under a
j bed. Corkery spent two years in an
insane asylum.
