Muldooo lingered near th*? top of tha

Being so difficult to get Into the pit
and out, the foreman and his men re
mained down there through the week,
only coining out Saturday nights to
clean up and draw their pay.
Muldooo hardly visited the slope
again during the week. There were
plenty of thing* to he overlooked
about the big contract.
But he was near the slope when the
men pulled themselves up one by one
over a rope ladder, flung down the
slope for the purpose,
With the ladder hauled up. there
wan practically no escape. The new
man had stumbled and slid down, hut
he could not slide hack.

as soon as the pit foreman turned

doon.

Smith, who walked with the aid of

ahooting gallery here today, ' laid
down a nickel, *hot once at a target
and the exclamation "Well, goodbye,"
fired the other ballet iuto his head.
He died a few minutes later at a ho ?

"How do you like the weather?"
asked Mr*. Ivy Hoke wife of the pro
prietor of the shooting gallery when
he entered.
"It's too cold for me," replied!

the time. The shooting followed.
Hospital attendants found a note
in one of Smith's pockets which read:
''I can't stand this life I am lead

Notice is hereby given that the Au
ditor's Office will be open for receiv
ing Tax Returns from January 1st,
1926, to February 20th, 1926. All
persons owning real estate or person
al property must make returns of the
sane within said period, as required
by law, or be subject to a penalty of
50 per cent.
The Auditor will attend in person
or by deputy at the following places
in the county on the dates indicated
for receiving returns:
Bethune: January 12th and 13th.
Raley's Hill: January 14th.
Carjolly High School: January 15th..
Kershaw: January 19th and 20th.
Liberty Hill: January 21st.
Westville: January 22nd.
Blaney: January 26th.
All persons between the ages of 21
and 60 years, inclusive are required, to
pay Poll tax; arid all persons between
