He was taken to Johns Hop kins hospital early last spring in the hope that something might be dono for him. Learning that he- could never recover, he became resigned, and accepted his suffering with Christian fortitude. He was received into the Methodist church several months ago. Mr. Cassady was about fifty years of age and is survived by his wife, one son, Arthur Oassudy of this place, twv daughters, Mrs. Pearl 'Pyner' of Harts Ville and Mrs. Kffiu Kelly of I.ucknow and three brothers, one of whom, <*. H. C'assady, is a prominent groceryman of Bethune. The funeral services were conducted by, his pastor, lie v. VV. V. Jerman, as sisted by Rev.. J. M. Porbis and Rev. M. B. CJunter at Pleasant Hill ceme tery one mile south of Bethune. Armistice Day was fittingly ob served in I lie high school auditorium Wednesday morning. There was a meeting; of the Palmetto Literary So ciety in the afternoon and the pro Dver to the observ being present. National Kdut ation week is being observed in the school this week. Improvement association wa.i held in the auditorium Friday after noon. The Charlotte Thompson girl's the entire school basketball team played a practice game here Friday afternoon. The homo team received an overwhelming defeat. The girljH of the basketball team, under the supervision of Mis* Kddie Hradham, motored to Bishopville Wednesday afternoon for a practice game and were defeated. Mrs. Rowe of Hartsville has ac cepted a position in the grammar grades hero and began work Monday morning. She has taken charge of* the overflow of first and second grades. Mr% Henry Barnes and family have moved the house recently occu pied by Mr. K. T. Kstridge. Mr. (i. K, Parrott and family have moved into Mr. A. K. Mcl<aurin's residence. Mr. and Mrs. McLaurin are with the latter's mother, ? Mrs. Louise Kelly, until their new resi* dence on South Main street is ready for occupancy. j Material is being placed on the grounds for the enlargement of the Bethune Mercantile company. Mrs. Cleckley of Cope is spending some time with hev daughter, Mth. J. D. I/afitte. Messrs. 1). T. Yarbrough, B. H. Gardner and Foster Gardner returned from ? busmess trip to Florida Sat urday. Miss Nancy Best, a student of Cokor College, spent the week-end with her father, Mr. B. W. Best. Mr. and Mrs. Woodruf Lowman of Columbia were visitors here Satur day. Mrs. Lowman, before marriage, was Miss Lucllo Williams and taught in the school hero. Mrs. Pauline King of Bishopville was the guest of her brother, Mr. B. W. Best's family Saturday.
