Ground Will B# Broken Monday, Pre
ceded by lUlly on 8und*y
The actual work o i reconstruction
of the Trinity Methodist Episcopal
church will begin on Monday, when
the ground will be broken for the
foundation of the new church build*
ing. From then the work will pro
ceed, it is hoped, until the building
is completed*
For many months thin congregation
hatt been working to raise funds to
build u new church, the old church
in which they had been worshiping
for more than fifty years being old,
dilapidated, and, by many, thought
to be unsafe.
, On Sunday morning, March UUJh,
just before the Sunday School as
sembled, a fire started on the roof
of the church and burned very rap*
idly. The quick response and excel
lent work of the firemen saved the
building from complete destruction,
but it was rendered useless for tha
services, the entire joof having burn
til away.
A meeting of the church officials
was called by the pastor, Ho v. H. F,
Bradford, and it was then jgcldfld
that it would be necessary at once
to rebuild. Architect .1. II. Sams of
Columbia was secured to draw the
plans for the new building which will
be of brick.
The ground breaking will be* pre
ceded by a rally on Sunday, when
the church members and the friends
of the church will be given an op
portunity to contribute to the build
ing fund; and by a service Monday
morning at ten o'clock on the church
v \
grounds on DeKalb street. This ser
vice will consist of singing, and Ad*
dresses by Dr. J. P. Pickett, Attorney
H. F. McGirt and others. The friends
of the church, both white and colored,
are invited to this service. ;
The passing of old Trinity removes
one of the landmarks of Camden.
The church was bought from the
white Methodists more than fifty
years ago by the colored Methodists,
who then had their church on the
other side of the street. There are
members of both races who regtet
to. see the old,. landmark removed.

WH1TK LINES ON PAVED ROADS
War To B* Made on "Otte-Kyrd Cars"
8aye Commissioner
White lines are to be painted in
the center of alKpaved highways in
South Carolina, to prevent Mro?d
hogs" i fin practicing their "hog
gishness," according to announce
ment by Chief Highway Commissioner
Samuel McGqwan, of plant made by
him here. Mr. McGowan also plans
a warfare on Mone-eyed cars" and also
on r\i?ting grade crossings.
In some states white lines are
painted in the center of paved high
ways, the purpose being to make it
easy for drivers to remain on their
half of the roadway.
Mr. McGowan states that the
highway commission will prosecute
persons driving cars on the highways
with one light. Both lights must be
"trimmed and burning," he declared,
this measure *'wlll be enforced also
for the public safety, according to the
chief c o m mts signer*
In addition to working for the
elimination of grade crossings now
existing, Mr. McGowan states that
where such crossings remain, haz
ards, such as trees, buildings, em
bankments ami so on, so situated As
to cut off from drivers the sight, of
approaching trains, will be removed.
In the plans for eliminating grade
crossings', Mr. McGowan states that
by the time the paving work under
the state's new "pay as you go" pro
gram grade crossings on state high
ways will all have been eliminated.
Forty-one grade Crossings have been
eliminated during the year past, 27
were disposed of by relocation of
roads, ten by overhead bridges and
four by underpasses. ? Sunday's Co
