Mias Sara Sims and William Sgmrks were painfully hurt in' an automobile accident last night when the car in which they wore riding was .struck by another car, driven by u negro, Henry Joter, | and turned a complete somersault. Mr Sparks iwas pinned beneath the car an<l Miss Sims asked the negro to lift the car so he could be gotten Out; he refused and she pick ed up u revolver which had fallen from their car in the crash and pointed it at him ami ordered that he wove the' car, which he quickly did. The, negro has been placed in jail and offers to beaj itM expense of the accident. Miss Sims is a young girl, 18 yinr* of age, the daughter of a prosperous planter near Union, T, M. Sims\ She is employed in a 10-cent store here and was being driven to her fyome by WilHam Sparks, Stand ard Oil representative yf Johesville. It was vain ingr and very dark, and the accident occurred on a sharp .curve near Hebron church, four miles out of town, Misj Sims was carried home after the accident, and is reported doing ?very well. He i brother, on learning of the accident, rushed !o the scene and carried young Sparks to the Wallace Thompson hospital here for treat ment. He notifie<r*thc sheriff of the accident and Sheriff Vinson depu tized him to get the n eg 1*9. He re turned to the place and arrested the negro at the point, of a pistol and brought him to Union and lodged him in jail. < The negro, it is alleged, instead of turning to the ri^ht at the curve, turned to tho left and side-swiped the car driven by Sparks, turning it ] completely over. Three firemen were injured, hundreds of people were rendered homeless and damage estimated at approximately $20U,000 was caused by fire of unde termined origin which late today swept a section of the busings dis trict of Charleston.
