_ ,&oive in Hvlduals and newspapers
have Severely criticised the1 legisla
te for remaining in session so long.
Some of the- criticism may, be do-,
served. W# believe, however, that
most iff the members have honestly
tried to do their duty to "their coun
ties and the state, and have remained
in m ion long over time, at their
own expense, trying to find a satis*
facto i y. way t<? solve the vexatiou.'
problem < before them, They had
many divergent ideas about what was
l>e8t to do. And they should not be
too severely condemned for standing
out so long for their views. .
We huvkt ht a:d judg< severely lam
bast Juries for failing to agree, but
At: always -vmpathr/ed with tin
juries, especially If i he re was a priu
eiple <if right arid wrong involved,
.'tod both side- of the divided jury
stood out for its own 'conscientious
interpretation of its duty.
The legislature fouhd it hard to
ge t together* but finally- did compro
mise its differences. Though the
compromise may not be satisfactory
to a large number, they knew that
there must be a compromise on the
plan of raising revenue. Cemmitte"
'after 'committee had tried to reach
an agrceim nt, . and the final report
of the free conference committee had
to be adopted, or else appoint new
committees to dp t'he work all over '
aguin, and probably hold an extra '
session of the legislature, to cost
$1 ">0,000 -or more and add a new prob
lem to raiding u venue.
We think the basis of the trouble
: s that we are all living too fast, and
spending t^> much. K very thing is
eost'ing so much more than it onet*

Those who rely on the yield of mortgages, gen- ,
erfljly demand the protection of fire insurance. Why
not guard against loss by Tornado and Wind?
If the house covered by the mortgage is blown
down and destroyed what is the worth of the mort
gage, if. as often is the case, the mortgagor's worldly
all is his equity in the demolished house?
Windstorm insurance is as logical as fire insur
ance. Without it the mortgagee may whistle for his ^
money, if the land value is less than the amount of
the loan; the owner of the mortgage^ house may face '
a heavy judgment. The slight cost of windstorm in
surance would save such complications.
