Principal Charged With Bi|t?y
Chester, March 10.?Carl Petri<\
principal of the I^eed* school in Chcs
cter county, was arrested Monday
night by Sheriff James G. Howte
and is now in the Chester county jail
on a warrant alleging bigamy,
It is said that Petrie married Miss
Helen Coleman; also a teacher in the
l^eedft school and whose home is suid
to be at Hidgeway. Upon receipt of
telephone message from relatives of
the young woman a warrant was is
sued by Magistrate Z. Vance I>avid
? son and Sheriff Howzc visited the
hotels in Chester finding that Petrie
and the young woman had registered
at the Mfera hotel. The room was
entert>d and Potrie was placed tinder
'afreat and put in the jail here. It
l'4a aaid that they were married in
York,
The warrant issued by Magistrate
Pnvidson alleges that "W, Carl Petrie
did wilfully and unlawfully, being
married and knowing his wife to be
living and .said marriage not having
been annulled by decree of any com'
potent tribunal having proper juris
diction, did wilfully and unlawfully
marry Helen Coleman of Chester
county."

Five Killed! in February
Five person* were killed, 17 were
seriously injured end ?3 received
minor injuries in automobile accidents
on highways in February, according
to reports received by the state high
way department in Columbia.
Three persons were killed when
car* collided, one was killed when
car and motorcycle collided and one
pedestrian by passing car, the report
said.
Twenty-one of the accidents were
reported as caused by careless driv
ing, twenty-three by speeding, four
teen by reckless driving due to liquov,
four by dazzling headlights, three by
skidding and two by defect^ of car.
Twenty-one cars wore overturned,
thirteen were driven off the' road,
sixty-seven were soripusly damaged,
and ten were slightly damaged. Three
horse drawn vehicles were damaged.
A joint resolution authorizing the
construction of an adequate bridge
over the Congaree river at Columbia
has been adopted by the Genefral As
sembly. Congress has previously au
thorized the bridge, which will be
completed within the next two years.
