Alvis Garr, taxi driver of Green

A pretty two year old babe, alleged

was turned over the past week to the
juvenile court in Spartanburg.

back yard of the New Hrookland jail.
The whiskey had been taken recently
from automobiles containing whiskey,
being captured by the New Hrookland
officers.
Ninety-Seven dollars was stolen by
two pickpocket* from George Martin,
negro, in Columbia, Saturday near tho

Miss Lora Kargle, of Kau Claire,
Columbia suburb, was attacked Fri
day by a harmless-looking ox, and
painfully gored. Mbs Kargle noticed
the animal in her brother's pecan
.grove, and thinking the ox was harm
less went out to drive the animal
away, when to her surprise the ox
charged at her and knocked her down
several times.
Joe Taylor, twelve year old son of
Sam Taylor 'of Fairforest, sustained
a broken leg Saturday afternoon
when a team of mules ran away with
him while cutting cotton stalks with
a stalk-cutter. The team ran about
200 yards before the boy's father
could stop them.

The pension committee of the low
er house of congress has refused to
grant a pension of $5,000 a year to
Mrs. Woodrow Wilson, widow of the
late president, on the ground .that
Mrs. Wilson is the possessor of an
ample fortune in her own right.
President Coolid^e is said to look
with little favor on a proposition that
he talk to the people of tho<*country
at frequent intervals on major gov
ernmental affairs, over the radio.
The president is said to hold that he
can get his ideas across more effec
tively by means of the newspapers.
A special school tax on all persons
not less than 21 years old is pro
posed in a bill before the Pennsyl
vania legislature. Five dollars is
to be rebated to every such person
who votes, however, by means of a
coupon attached to each ticket, and
to be returned to the voter when he
casts "bis ballot, by the election mana
gers.
