Death of Mr. Catoe
John da toe, of the Cantey Hill auc
tion, aged about 73 years, died on last
Thursday at the home of his daughter
Mrs. Walter Mebley in the Oakhurst
section, and was buried in the ceme
tery at Bethel church on Friday, the
funeral services being conducted by
Rev. J. M. Neal and Rev. J. H. Byrd.
Mr. Catoe is survived by five sons and
three daughters. Mr. Catoe was a
brother of T. W. Catoe, who took h!s
own life and was buried only the Sun

A minute and inconspicuous black
spider was found living on Mount
Everest, higher than any other crea
ture on earth. This spider lived more
than 17,000 feet above sea level.

'Hiehard Kirkland at the Court Rouse
on Saturday, the 24th day of January,
1925 at eleven o'clock. All veterans
who are able to do so are urged to at*

Kev, J. \V. Boy kin, the pastor of
Mt. Moriuh Baptist Church, and his
congregation, are planning the fifty*
ninth anniversary of the . establish
ment of (lifii clnmh,' liie exercises to
be held on Sunday, January 2?r>, 1025.
The original members of the congre
gation flfty-nine years ago were
members of the white church anil
were given letters of dismission that
they might establish their own house
of worship. The church has the
unique distinction of having only two
pastors in t'he fifty-nine years. The
first pastor was the late lamented
Key. Monroe Boykin^ a power for
good in his day. At his death he was
succeeded ? by his son, Rev, Jeff Hoy
Kin, who is the present pastor. The
services are interesting each year and
a cordial invitation is- extended to
white as well as colored to attend
this service^ There will be addresses
by prominent white citizens.

promoter of the Bayano Oil bubble,
who fleeced scores of friends and
relatives out of millions of dollars,
died tonight in the state prison here.
