Builds Better Babies
United States Senator E. D. Smith
narrowly escaped death, about four
miles west of Florence on the Tira
monsville highway late Friday when
his automobile was run into and com
ptetety demolished by an automobile
driven by Will Green of the Timmons
ville ejection of Florence county. The
senator, who Was accompanied by his
daughter and sister; received only
minor injuries. Green is in a Flor
ence hospital in a serious condition,
suffering internal injuries.. Senator
?Smith had been attending the Pee
Dee fair, and was on his way to his
home in Lynchburg when the accident
occurred.
A barn on the place of J. E^ Sar
ratt who lives near Gaffney was de
stroyed by ~ fire together with two
mules last Friday, entailing a prop
erty loss of |2,000 with $400 insur
ance.

clared that under the Harding regime
post offices were sold in South Caro
lina at front $75 to $500 each. Mr.
Stevenson stated that the individual
who is aware of the proof as a re
sult of the examination has been dis
patched to the I'acifte coast by the
administration and that the, result
of the investigation will hot be offi
cial and public property until after
the national election. "John Tol
bert,' said Mr. Stevenson, "knows
more about the dispensation of Fed
eral patronage in the South than any
other map, not even excluding
com Slemp, tho secretary, to the presi
dent." Tolbert is Republican nation
al committeeman in South Carolina
and one of' the president's bosom
companions in the South.

Notice is hereby given that the
General Election for Presidential and
Vice Presidential Electors, United
States Senator and Representatives!
in Congress will be held at the voting
precincts fixed by law in the County
of Kershaw on Tuesday, November.
4, 1924, said day being Tuesday fol-1
i lowing the first Monday, as j pre-'
soribcd by the State Constitution.
The qualifications for suffrage are
as follows? I
Residence in State for two years, in
the County one year, in the polling
invoiiu't in which the elector offers
to vote, four months, and the pay
ment six months before any election
of any poll tax then due and payable:
Provided, That ministers in charge
of an organised church and teachers
of public schools shall be entitled to
vote after six months' residence in
t&b State, otherwise qualified.
Registration.?Payment of Ml
taxes, including poll tax, assessed and
collectible during the previous year.
The production of a certificate or the
receipt of the officer authorized to
collect such taxes shall be conclusive
proof of the payment thereof.
BefortV the hour fixed for opening
the polls Managers and Clerks must
take and subscribe to the Constitu
tional oath. The Chairman of the
Board of Managers can administer
the oath, to the dther Managers and
to the Clerk; a Notary Public must
administer the oath to the Chairman.
The Managers elect their Chairman

opened at 7 o'^lottc a.m. and closed at
4 o'clock p.m., except in the City of
Charleston, where they shall be
opened at 7 a.m. and closed at p.m.

point, from among the qualified
voters, the Managers, v>ho, after be
ing sworn, can conduct the election.
At the close of the election the
