his church on Sunday morning and
his body laid to rest in the cemetery

fi ieuds followed his easket to the
grave, and many kindly remarks were
made in regafd to his splendid life
by numbers of those who attendel
bis burial. Truly a good man has
gone from us.
Denton lirothers Out.
Kock Hill, Aug. 24. ? Herman and
William Denton, brothers, of Cam
den, who were painfully shot by, it
is alleged, Frank Williams at his
home in the industrial mill commun
ity of this city last Sunday evening,
have recovered sufficiently to leave
tin- hospital and return to their
homes.
Arthur Denton, third brother, who
was present but who was not
wounded, has been released from jail
i>n a bond of $.r?()0 on the charge of
assault and battery with intent to
kill, while Williams is released with
out bond. ni> warrant having been
sworn out against him. Whether
warrants will be taken for the two
nil n who were wounded could not

Collision Between Heri' and Sumter]
Results in Arrest and Seizure.

known to his friends as . Hamburgei
Browder, of Columbia. is in the Sum
ter county jail today on the charge
of transporting liquor, ancl another j
man, made his escape, when their ear;
was wrecked, after a collision, with J
another small car on the Camden j
road three miles west of Sumter, late j
Thursday night, Browder remained

and he was placed ih jail after two
fights with officers, whom he gave a
hard tussle before he was overcom".
The two cars, it is said, strut k
each other, and the whiskey car went
i for a shoit distance ami then struck
a bank, where both wheels were
crushed. Citizens living in the vicin- |
ity notified the officers, who went to
the see? ih' about midnight. Browder
was found hiding behind a nearby
negro house, but the other man made
his escape into the woods. In the car
?were S7 two quart jars of whiskey,
which were taken in charge by the
officers and removed to the sheriff's
office. The car was also brought to
town and is being held, pending de
velopments. It is said to belong to
L. Is. Chapman, of Columbia, accord
ing to information gained from the
State highway office.
Browder and Chapman are said to
have been the two men in the Cadil
lac madster who gave officers such an
exciting chase here several weeks
ago. whvii they escaped, going to
ward- Columbia. Browder, it is said,
secured the services of an attorney
this afternoon and was seeking to
secure bail.

the time of his death was sixty-oneo
years old. His home was at Kelleu

that he had to sit on two chairs. He
was married and was the father of
several normal children. In his young
er days he was a carpenter, but he

trade, becoming a dealer in eggs arid
milk.
The late Mallory and Irvine of the
Mt. Everest expedition have at least

mountain climbing. They were within

Mt. Everest when last seen ? a height
