Before attempting to drive a screw
into woodwork cover the end of tho j
screw with soap.
If tho trap in your bedroom or
kitchen is clogged, attach a piece of
lubber hose to your cold water faucet,
then place hose over opening in sink
and turn the water on full force, al
lowing' it to run several minutes. This
will Hush the trap.
If you have difficulty in driving
small tacks into the wall, put them
into a piece of thin cardboard an inch
or so apart, drive them in, then pull
off the cardboard.
When serving afternoon tea if you
pour a few drops of hut water into
the saucers, enough to just moisten
them, you will t)nd the cups will not
slip about on the saucers when you are
passing them to your guests. ?
To replace metal tops that have
come off your shoestrings, dip them
in mucilage.
An easy way to keep silver bright
is to put a handful of borax in a pan
o f hot water with a very little soap.
Place the silver in this and let it
stand the entire morning. Itinse in
clear water and wipe dry with a soft
cloth\
Save all the waxed paper in which
crackers and bread are wrapped. This
waxed paper is the very thing you
want on which to roll out pie crust or
biscuits, also doughnut#, or cookies;
no washing of pantry board is neces
sary.
To remove tartar, moisten the
toothbrush with warm water and dip
it in magnesia. A few applications
are sufficient. 1
Lamp chimneys should not be wash
ed, but rubbed clean with tissue pa
peiv- If- the-glasfr is much stained or
smoked, dampen the tissue paper with
a litiie kerosene oetore using and
polish with a soft, dry cloth.
A teaspoonful of salt and dessert
spoonful uif lemon juice answer the
same purpose as "salts of lemon" for
removing iron mould from linon. It is
not a poison an4 will not prove inju
rious to the linen.
To clean egg stains from spoons
first rub them with a little salt, then
wash them in soap and water and dry
with d soft cloth. ' *
Tea and coffee stains on woolen
blouses, etc., can be removed with the
aid of glycerine. A little should be
applied to the stain, left for a time
aqd then washed out with lukewarm
water. Iron the material on the in
side till it is dry.
When boiling onions, cabbage, tur
nips or any vegetables with a strong
odor boil at the same time some vine
gar with spices in it. This will de
stroy the vegetable odor.
When washing glassware do not put
it in hot water bottom first, as it may
crack from sudden expansion. Every
delicate glass can be safely washed in
very hot water if slipped in edgewise.
