Fort Mill Y?t Ahe*d.
On December 2nd, the Superintend
dent of the Economy Home took the
Fort Mill i>?4'ple by surpris^, Ho car
ried nix of |he larger girl* over to
the Union service Sunday night, held
by all the churches of the town in the
Methodist church. The Fort Mill
oburches haveTmion services ? every
first Sunday night. Of course the
payors had arranged their programs,
not knowing that Mr. Spaulding and
the girls wero coming, but the pastor
asked Mr. Spaulding to speak a few
minutes before preaching, and the
girls sang two songs. The pastor
the congregation for' a srontri
butloh without saying a word to Mr.
Spaulding, giving as his excuse for so
astjng, that a collection was always
in order for an orphanage. This
amounted to $33.00. The same day
Mr. I. E. Iookadoo of Fort Mill visited
the Home and handed Mrs, Spaulding
?5 .00. The following week, the Sup
erintendent and Boss men of No. 2
Mill collected and sent in by Mrs. R.
i JD. Hawkins $102.00. ,
Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Ea^on
and Mrs. Ellie Parks visited
thu Home Sunday, the 9th, and car
ried $145.10 in cash and $2.00 worth
of outing and little aprons, ready
made, from the Louise Best Circle.
This added to the $5.00 from Mr. Ea
son, makes $310.10 from Fort Mill in
one week.
The , Superintendent, Rev. J. H.
Spaulding, says that Fort Mill has
contributed more per capita than any
other town or city to the Home. He
says that these good people are the
most unselfish of any he knows. They
help freely every time they are called
upon and have never asked tbo home
to take a child from Fort Mill. This
looks like true religion.
The trustees of the Economy Home
sent out a tremendous appeal from
their last meeting, October 26th,
which was published in the November
"Home Fire." In the same paper was
an article by Major J. C. Dozier,
Secretary of \he State Bumu of Pub
lic Welfare, telling of his ^pspection
of the Home and the good work being
done there, with, the statement that
thoy^ should not take any more chil
dren until they get better equipment..
These facts, presented with the
great need of the 500 motherless
children knocking at the doors of
the Economy Home, probably explain
why the Fort Mill people are so gen
erous
The Superintendent of the Home
savs tjfyjit if every town and city in
the State will contribute as much per
"capita, as Fort Mill has the Home
would be able to take fifty more chil
dren as soon as they could build a
bouse.
v Can we do a nobler thing than to
present to our motherless children a
new home, where loving hearts can
care for them and skilled hands train
them ? Send all money for this pur
pose to the Economy Home, Kings
Creek, S. C.
