Lee 'aldwcll, star halfback on the local chool team; was killed during the hire! quarter of the game here this ifternoon with the Charlotte high chool team. Caldwell had just punt (1 and the punt had been received by i C harlotte player. The right end ac'kled the Charlotte player, but miss >d, and Caldwell then tackled. The momentum of the opposing player it is said, threw Caldwell backward, his jhead striking the hard ground and [fracturing his neck just below the fcase of the skull. He lived about 30 minutes and died on the field. All ef forts to revive him were in vain. The third quarter was one pf acci dents. At the time Caldwell was killed Vfcach, captain of the local team, was groaning1 on the sidelines with a bro ken collar bone and a Charlotte player was suffering with a badly sprained ankle. * Seven of the men indicted in. the Federal court at Fort Worth, Texas, along with I)r. Mr. John'|Heriry Clyburn and Miss Margaret Pinson were married last Thursday night, October 11th, in Camden, the Kev. Edwin Muller, pas tor of Presbyterian church at Cam den officiating. Their wedding which came as a surprise to their friends in Hartsville, was witnesed by only a few friends who accompanied them to Camden. Following the ceremony the wedded couple went to Greenwood where they visited Mrs. Clyburn's pa rents^1 ? , Mrs. Clyburn, who is a graduate of Coker College, is teacher of Latin in the Hartsville High School, and will contir.u0 in her work here. Just a lit tle while back an experiment station sent out a man to kill a "bob white" in order to ascertain his capacity for e ate lung the Hesian fly, which abom inable wheat pest was brought to the United States in straw by the Hessian soldiers from' Europe 4 during the American Revolution. This pest alone costs the wheat growers of our nation millions of dollars, If my partridges are killed they will be maliciously scared off my little farm and shot on the other man's farm, very much against my wishes, and if there is any doggond hateful thing that moves my Irish blood up 16 dogrees above normal it is this hateful sneaking habit that some men have of driving birds over the line. When the experiment agent opened tho crop of H?ob white", he found two hundred^and fifty-two Hessian flies, a fine day's worlj; for one bird, and when you count up what a covey of 15 partridges would do during a warm spell in October, November or Decem ber, for these are the months that these dadburned -flies deposit their larvae near the root of the young wheat which causes such a tremen? dous loss to the wheat grower.
