Hoyd had relatives in Camden and he was held in a hank there by Mayor Carrison when he pre sented a check to be cashed, Hoyd was brought to Columbia a short time before eourt convened and wns given a 'speedy trial. The negro claimed that ho was working on a plow and that the girl picked up a bolt that he needed. Hoyd said the girl refused to give him the holt and screamed when he attempted to take the bolt by force. There were no eyewitnesses to the al leged. crime. Hoyd was' convicted and the supreme court refused a new trial.
