tion with aiding and abetting John

cera of the law, and the later arreat
of three more white men from the
Iiethunc section in connection with
tho horrible murder temporarily take*
six bad eggs out of the commuhity
and it in hoped that when they are
brought to trial that they will be
given long terms in prison. Their re
moval fvdm the county would make
this section safev for ' law-abiding
.citizens to reside in, and it would at
least stop the flow of moonshine li
quor in this Mection for a while. Public
sentiment is rapidly frowning down
upon this evil and the courts can help
matters by imposing long ' prison
sentences. Propaganda haH already
been started in behalf of Harfleld ?
some saying that Youmans was shot
by his own men. If Barfield was not
the guilty man he made a desperate.*
effort to get away.
While traveling the highway from
Ashoville to Greenville in this State
last Sunday the automobile driven by
two young ladies was riddled with
bullets by prohibition officers near
Travelers I<est because the young
ladies did not stop when halted. It is
considered miraculous that they wero
not hit by stray bullets or their car
wrecked* It would be far, better that
one hundred rum runners escape than
one innocent person be killed. The
affair will cause delight in the ranks
of the enemies of prohibition and real
friends of prohibition cannot defend
it, and as the Greenville News says.
"\Vhen it becomes unsafe for ladies to
travel the public highways of South
Carolina it is time for all good citi
zens 'to give attention to the situn
t ion."
We are publishing on this page to
day all of the quarterly statements
of the financial institutions of the
county. A pprtisal of them will show
that all of the banks are in healthy
conditions and this county is l'ar from

servative business men and all enjoy
