The senate to day killed the Mabry marriage li cense bill, This is the Siroonhoff bill of last year and was introduced by Mr. Mabry of Spartanburg. It pro vkled for medital certification of males applying for marriage licenses. The vote was' 22 to 1G. The bill was debated at length Wednesday | evening and the discussion this morn ing was rather limited. Former Kershaw Citizen Dies at His Home in McBee. The many friends in Kershaw of W. if. Sowell, were grieved to learn of his death, which occurred at his home in McBee on last Wednesday night. Mr. Sowell, who was in his 82nd ye-ar, had bren in ? dr-cll.TrtTTg health for several years, hut held Up remarkably well for one of his years. The funeral services were held in the McBee Presbyterian church and wen conducted by Rev, H. H. Lawson, formerly pastor of the Baptist church at McBee. Interment \tas in the McBee cemetery. Mr. Sowell was formerly a citizen of Kershaw and left here about seven years ago to make his home at McBee. He was a member and steward in the Kershaw Methodist church and by h;s consistent Christian living en ?ie:'.re 1 himself in the hearts, of the K?-i>haw people', all of whom were ii : friends. Atlanta, Fob. 16! ? The Bi? Hethel AfricaA Methodist Kpiscopxil Church, one of the largest negro churches ill the South, was totally destroyed by fire here late today. The churcl* was completed about three months ago and was valued at approximately $300,000. The blare, fire officials said, originated from a defective flue.
