Tho laying of the cement on Bnmd
.trut has boon completed from the
colored Baptist church to the white
Baptist church, and the forces of th<
const ruction company are now work
ing, on the western end of DeKalb
street. The paving of the sidewalks
on east DeKalb Street has begun and
it i? being put down in sections so
n,s to allow an entrance to the bust^
ness houses on this street. We un
derstand that the eastern end or
DoKalb street will be paved from
curb to curb, the same as Broad
street and we think it a wise decis
ion on the part of city council, for
traffic on this street is almost ?;
heavy as that on Broad. I he asphalt
plant is now being erected near.the
Southern passenger wtation and tho
work of placing asphalt will com
mence in the next few days. With
favorable weather it is hoped this
Work will be finished by December

Paving Causing Inconvenience.
Due to the fact that Camden has
only one street, entrance, both east
and west, we are badly bottled up, on
account of the work going on with
th<j paving of DeKalb Street.
Whereas if those that have had the
authority in their hands for the past
two years, were not bowing to two
or three objectors, we Would already
have had Rutledge Street extended
west to intcrsecfc the main highway,
and from that direction would not
be experiencing the difficulty that
we are experiencing, an<jl if those
that saw fit to dig up and block the
old Biahotoville road, beyond the Her
mitage Cotton Mills, would not have
done so, or would reopen this road,
traffic wtould not experience the
difficulty that it will shortly expe
rience in the closing of east DeKalb
Street. Let us implore those that
seem to have this power to block to
be liberal, and lend us their co-oper
ation, and then we could have a sub
stitute entrance, and there would
certainly be no better time than now
to do this. R. L. Mosely.
