The supposition 1m that Mr. 11a Ho
killed I'rof. Homes, and then to have
privacy drove all away from his of
fice and wrote a letter. However. tbo
accuracy of. expression and the com

apparently written, leads to the belief
that the letter was composed before
Mr. Illlito went to the office. The let
tor purported to 1>e signed by Mr.
Halle was identified by Mr. Ohrlstto
Mei^ct. to Whom the envelope contain
ing it was addressed.
This letter refor,rt:d to Mr. Homes us
trxiug t(? save himself and also re
ferred to others connected with the
university as being responsible for the
tragedy. The letter contained the hope
that "1 have U friend that wil# demand
a fair, honest and thorough iim-stlga*
tion and let the truth be know?/'
A notation on a slip of yellow paper
which Mr. Homes* -was accustomed to
use contained the following: "But I
have Iwen dissuaded from doing this Tiy
my friends* through consideration for
the welfare of this institution."
A coroner's Jury found that Mr.- Hallo
klMed Prof. Homes and himself while
temporarily insane.

from Haile to keep out, the superintend
ent pointing his revolver at the presi
dent with a statement :

An official statement, issued by
President Currell said there bad been

some time, growing out of a confliet of
duties at the university.

University of Virginia and the United
States Military Academy at West Point.
He had held many important engineer
Ins assignments and stood high in his
profession. He is survived by a wife

An inquest over the two -bodies was

ty tonight.
At the inquest tonight the jury found
that Prof. M. tioode Homes was slain
by Benjamin Halle that the latter was
tcmpomrarily insane and that Haile
then died by his own hands.
A /letter found in a pocket of Hailo's
coat was read, written by Haile, show
ing that the cause of the tragedy was
the differcn<*os between the two nieti
