Publir Health Nursing
A, small but enthusiastic meeting
was held at the Episcopal tea room,
or Parish Home last Saturday after
noon. called by Mrs. Margaret C.
Miller, secretary of the local Red
Cross Chapter for the purpose of
organizing or discussing a Public
Health Nursing Association for Ker
shaw County. Representatives from
the different organizations and from
the different rural communities were
present. The feature of the afternoon
was the address, or informal talk
given by Mrs. Ruth A. Dodd, State
Director for Public Health Nursing.
Mrs. Dodd was introduced by Mrs. Mil
ler and her talk was interesting,
pleasing and instructive. Through an
appropriation from the Legislature
and Red Cross funds the work of this
Association will extend t<> the
county, and will include medical in
opection of schools throughout the
county, baby welfare. T. It,- Work,
looking up *uoh cases and assisting
them to camp, sanitation, etc. It is
u much needed work and its impor
tance cannot be over-ra t<nl. Mrs. Paul
Rrown gave a very interesting talk on
the get-together-day. or better baby
tontest which they hope to hold in
Camden next fall, the date to he nam
ed later. A very pleasant social hour
was spent, the members of the Red
Cross Chapter serving ice cream and
cake.

In the. evening the little darkles
from the plantations nunc in and for

The ever -ready vlctrola had been
brought along for convenience and
j pleasure, and contributed the music
for dancing in the mill-bouse which af
; forded an opportunity that the girls
and hoys were not slow in taking ad

He Is not seriously Injured. Ho was
identified by I>r. Moore as the man

It was found on his person. I?r. ami
Mrs. Moore were awakened to find
Davis standing over their bed, menac
ing them with a revolver. He forced
them to geOnto f li**i r bath room, lock
ing the door, and .then robbed the
house.1 When he left a neighbor was
aroused by calls and he released Dr,
and Mrs. Moore. It was found that
the telephone wire was cut and a
neighbor's telephone was used. With
a description of the burglar, the police
started to the Moore home in the sub
urbs and encountered. Davis on the
corner of Hull and (Jreen streets, when
the police car halted. Davis glided be
hind a hedge and commenced firing on
them. His fire was returned and he
was wounded in the neck; dropping to
the street, tie had a revolver in each
hand. Many shots were exchanged In

Civic League Meets.
A very delightful meeting of the
Camden Civic League was held Mini
day afternoon, on the Library Park.
It was quite a disappointment to the
league that the expected guests, Miss
Miniahan. and Mrs. Chen, of Colum
bia did not come: but the members
hope that it is only a deferred pleas
ure. and that the League may have the
-honor of entertaining these ladies in
the near future.
The meeting was called to order by
Mrs. Muller. and minutes or last meet
ing read by Miss Nettles. Mrs. Kit
cliey as chairman of Depot committee
reported that work had commenced at
the Seaboard station, this news was
very gratifying Indeed.
Mrs. von Tresekow reported for the
tree committee. She thought the trees
\veft? being badly used on account of
wires. Mrs. Muller, however, has in
terviewed the men. and they had prom-'
ised to be as careful as possible in
this work. Mrs. von Tresekow also re
ported on the Rest Room. One half
year's rent, -Soft, has been sent to Mrs.
lturdell.
