The meet lug was called to order by the .President and the chapter secre tary who ban the enviable record of not missing a meeting In her three years serving was In place. The names of Mrs. J. 1). Brown, Mis* Lottie Brown, Mrs, Murion Zemp. Miss Ernestine Bateman and Mrs. J. L. .Taeksou, of llagood, were proposed and ueceptod for membership. * The president urged all who had applications for morhhership out to fill and send in at once, or certainly l>e? fore the September meetlug. Several of these have paid their chapter dues, b^ the voting strength of the'TTTapfer depends entirely upo* the registration, autl merely paying dues does not make thoin Daughters of the Confederacy. They must be accepted by the United Daughters of The Confederacy irtid also by the South Carolina division. The chapter has more than a hun dred registered member*, but will go far beyond that when the application^ that are out come in. Let us urge the applicants to bring them in. The historian, Mrs. Edwin Mullet, read a letter from the State historian asking that tampers be written from in formation derived form Confederate Veteran*} and Confederate women who remember the war. as this source of information Is fast passing away. A committee consisting of Mrs. Edwin Muller, chuirman, Mrs. A. C. Anerunj, Miss Rebecca Nelson, Mrs.' X. C. Arnett and Miss Leila Shannon was api>oint ed by the chair to attend to this matter and the committee will appre ciate any aid rendered. The pai>ers are to go in not later than September first. The chapter decided to resume the work of marking the graves of Con federate Soldiers. Mrs. F. Leslie Zemp and Mrs. E. E. Sill have charge of this work and will take pleasure In giving attention to any unmarked grave re ported to them. Tile Chapter voted $50 to the South Carolina room in the old Confederate White House ill Richmond, Virginia. The president asked the chapter to stand while the secretary read a tri bute to the memory of Mrs. I>. A. Boy kin, second vice president and beloved j member. While standing the president also expressed the sincere! sorrow felt by jjie chapter in the dpatli Gf pr. Simeon Baruch. one time resident and beloved' physician of our town, and always Camden's friend and benefactor. Mrs. William Shannob moved that the chapter president write a letter of con dolence to Mrs. S. Baruch, who Is a loyal member of our chapter, express ing our grief In his passing, and our admiration for his life and achieve ment. We deem it an liouor and es teem it a privilege to perpetuate and keep green the memory and deeds of such a man. The social hour was extremely pleasant. A charming quartette was sting by Mrs. J. B. Zemp, Mrs. Bud din and the Misses Katherine and Elizabeth Wallace. with Mrs. C. Zemp at the piano. Punch and cake were served by Misses C.ertrude Zemp and Lucy Klrkland. MUs Gregg Is charming iu person and pleasing in manner and captivated the audianee .with a delight ful talk on the Orient, its customs and Its possibilities. *Mit? spoke of the doc trine of Confucius, whose nu">e Is the ( highest, and most honored In the land to which he gave his life long devotion. Mr. Wittkowsky and Mr. Jenkins, an academic senior represent ed the Ijuphradlau Society in the de hale against Mr. Smith ami Mr. Mann* I wo senior law students representing I he Clarlosophic Society, and who for the past two years were regarded as the best debaters iu the University. j While the Clarlosophic Society won ? the debate by a vote of two to one, Mr. ! Wittkowsky was highly complimented j on his most excellent ? debate, and as j shown by tlrv vote of the judges the | decision was very close.
