What I wl#h to May. is something
regarding tlif reunion of the Houth
Carolina Division of the HnUod GOn
fedora 1 1' Veterans, which, of ?onrae,
you know, was held In Camden Muv
Is and JO. Tldn reunion proved to he
lite most successful ami delightful of
the many reunion* held by the
/veterans, according t<? resolutions ad
?opted by them on the lust day of thel?'
-esslnii, a copy, of which, you will po
sibiy publish iii another section of this
edition.
Why was this I In* niost successful
alid delightful Of the many reunlou
held by the veterans? (living you my
aff&Wer, which has also been stated by
man* others. 1 will say that tin'
wonderful spirit of corporation was
entirely responsible Never before
have 1 secjn such a spirit of co-opera
lion. The citizens of Caindeli, as well
as Kershaw County, have won for
themselves an honor which 1 hope will
la* held by them for time ami time to
come. The scenes, around the Court
House, the Camden Maptlst Church,
the tent in which the veterans were
served with meals and all other place
where they w ere . entertained during
I lie two days were indeed beautiful
and inspiring ? that fine spirit of co
operation bubbling hp above every
thing, else. No one was seeking honor
for themselves, but jnsi working as an
organized body of citizens paying hom
age !<? our heroes of the Go's.
Perhaps the. most beautiful of the
scenes, next to the. old veterans en
joying themselves so thoroughly, was
the work done by our ltoy Scouts-r
t hose boys that wore the little badge
with three words on it. word# that
mean everything ? "I'll do it." They
did do it in a manner that was pleas
ing to everyone. They knew no Tom
mnndcr. but were on the ground to
serve in any capacity within their
power, and next to the veterans. I say
to you very frankly. I take off my
hat to these noble boys, our hoys of
today?- our men of tomorrow- ? our
heroes of the 20's.
Coming back to that spirit of co
operation. While viewing those
beautiful scenes, I could not help but
think of what Camden and Kershaw
County could accomplish if that same
spirit prevailed in every move and pro
ject | *u t forward by our county govern
mept, our city government and our
Chamber of Commerce. This thought
was not only in my mind, but in the
mind of many of our citizens and they
did no* hesitate to express it. and I
hope that this wonderful spirit of co
operation will continually stir the
minds of everyone of ~ uT until it Is
buried ? o deep in our hearts that no
power on earth can remove it. and that
it will serve as an inspiration for u
to go forward with a more determined!
effort than ever in the history of our
community to build up the greatest
city and county in t lie entire South.
Co-operation that wonderful word, the
greatest of all words in the dij'tjon
a r.v.
Verv truly yours.
