There arc two outlets for tUe eoHsiimp tion of t liu . iH'tjtuut crop; one is In tho f<rm of shcllod lints which arc used for rousting. Halting, making ihmuuu butter, confoet injuries, sulads, meat substitute*, etc., and the other is in the form of edible oil and peanut uitvil for stock feed. Under normal condi tion tho demand for oil and stock food is sufficient to take care of any amount of |ieanuts that can be pro duced in this country, and will act as a st; .bilixcr in preventing the price of peanuta from going below the <x?st of production. At the present time, how ?ever, the price of edible oils has drop ped away Inflow the pre-war level and consequently the price of peanuts is far lower than it has been for many yea rs. This country consumes an enormous amount of vegetable oil. in the form of cooking oil, silad oil. lard compound, niargarin, etc., and tin* sup ply comes mainly from the cotton seed of the South, Therefore the siz.e of the cotton crop Is the main factor in determining tin* price of vegetables oils in tii is country. Now we are assured that there will Now we are assured that there will he enough cotton carried over to sup ply the world for another year, so if we should produce more than half a crop tho coming season, we could not expect it to bring anywhere near the cost of making it. Most of our fanners are wise enough to sec this and partly from expediency and pirtl.v from necessity, there is going to be the greatest reduction ever known. Thif reduction may barely maintain the price of cotton at the present level, but it will prohablv double the price oil. oil. because there will be no very great surplus carried over. This means that peanuts widl be worth f?0 j>or cent to 100 per cent more than they are this season. The farmers who planted |x*unuts the past season may abuse them all they please, but they must admit that they are better off than if they bad planted all cotton or corn or tobacco or what not. and the same condition faces them today when they a i'e con sidering what eroj?s to plant . the- com ing season. The past season has demonstrated Jtbat. peanuts vrjill/ produde. ?well' on the poorest land, or on rich land with out any fertilizer at all. The seed will cost less than half what they cost lest year. Many farmers now have the neces sary machinery such as planters. (Jig gers and jriekers. to s?iy nothing of the experience. Another tiling for the farmer to re member is the law of averages. The price of pe.iuuts thisf season is just as far iielow the average since the South has been raising peanuts as last sea son's prices were above the average. The average price of Spanish farmers, stock is not far below $100 per ton, and wo have just a$. ^chance of go lng above the avffifoge Ihe coming sea side fts-wt' have life* below it.- I sea rsr<AXft cotton oil co.
