HAVE NO REASON TO WORRY
Why Som* of the Lower Animal* May
Think With Complaoancy ?#
Ufa After Oaath.
Many of the animals we know are
not worried over tha Ufa after* death.
They vl$w tha future with complacent
cy. In fact, they rather welcome It.
. Tha industrious little beaver It
''obliged to spend hla life digging mud
with his flat and unlovely tall. It la
not a high-brow occupation.
H* knows that when hts time
comea be will, In all likelihood, be
made Into a silk hat to be worn by a
statesman or a member of a mayor's
welcome committee. In thla capacity
he will associate with many famous
people. If he adorns a president ha
ipay take many trips to Paris. If
on a society in&u he will go to grand
opera frequently.
The alllgutor. wiggling In his south*
?rn swamp, looks forward to the day
when he will be graduated Into a
handsome . handbag. He will travel
much and It la altogether likely that
he will carfy numerouR bottles. ,A fu
ture of much travel with his hide full
Of good liquor doesn't discourage tha
alligator.
The (iilnk. the marmot, thd squirrel*
the murten, what of them? Bvery ona
of these will probably form part of
the scenery ot a chorus ktrl or a so
ciety wemnn and will see life,' partic
ularly with the show girl. He will ba
admired and will visit many strange
places. j
Well may the silver fox sing; **0
death I where Is thy sting?" for It la
reasonably certain that his future will
consist In wrapping himself about tha
lovely neck of some debutante.
Even the old bull has a brilliant
future. His fate will be to mingle in
various sporting events, his hide be
ing. mnde up Into dice boxes.
The cat and the horse are Hkeiy to
figure prominently, on the concert
stage and hear the applause of tha
multitude. The cat will furnish the
violin strings and the. tall of the horse
,wlll furnish the vital part of the bow.
The polar bear looks forward to
! spending the fnture lying on the floor
In front of the fireplace In an ex
pensive blub, *and the tiger will per
form the same function In some vam
pire's boudoir. IIo will also figure
prominently In motion picture plays
and magazine stories.
Not so had for the animals, every
thing considered. ? Chicago Herald

Chair Has Peculiar History.
The massive chair made of copper
which natives believe was given by tlie
late Queen Victoria of England to an
Ashanti chieftain ami used hy him as
a throne, bns boon tliscovered in the
midst of a jungle far from human
habitation in the gold coast colony,
West Africa. According to native leg
end. it was placed over the grave of
the chleftala who, had occupied It
when alive.
In their superstition they believe *ho
still sits upon his old throne in spirit
at certain times, and for this reason
they have never tried to move the
chair, which, they declare, has now
rooted Itself In the ground, says a
dispatch to the Dally Graphic.
A gold coast surveyor* first stum
bled across this curiosity. A search
party returned to the spot and found
the Jungle so dense that, the natives
had to hack a -path with cntlasses
through the underf?roti*th.
In spite of Inquiry, no confirmation
of the native story as' to the history
of the chair has been obtainable, ' and
how It caipe to be In the Jungle re?
mains a mystery.
Different Kinds of Ice.
There are said to be five different
kinds pf Ice, foqr of which exist only
under unusual circumstances. Ice 1 Is
the'ordlnary Ice that forms on thersur>
face of lakes and rivers when the ther*
mometer goes below 82 degrees Fah
renheit, 0 degrees Centigrade. Ice 8
It formed hy subjecting Ice 1 to a
pressure of about 5,000 pounds to tha
square Inch. It Is heavier than wa
ter, an(W the moment the pressure Is
relaxed breaks up Into a fine powder
with a volume from four to eight
times greater than the Original. Ics
2 Is formed when the pressure Is fur
ther Increased and the temperature
lowered to 20 degrees Centrlgrade. Ice
4 results from a still greater press
ure; Ice 0. from a pressure of 28.400
pounds to (he square Inch, and Ice 6,
the hardest and heaviest of all, when
the enormous pressure of 142,200
pounds pfer square Inch Is applied.
A Temporary Case.
At the conclusion of an exciting
basketball game during the sectional
basketball tournament at Tomllnson
hall, Miss Desse Vandlvler a teacher
at Technical high school, went to
the telephone to report the day's vic
tories.
Either the excitement of the last
game or anxiety over the next was
too much for the nerves sf a usually
calm faculty member. When the
operator asked the number. Miss Van
dlvler answered, "Basketball 2-1-0."
The operator let the sense of humor
overcome her. business training. The
next Instant Miss * Vandlvler heard*
not the voice of her mother, but some
one shouting, "Insane Hospital lM? In
dians polls News. ,
Probably Mature.
. "About how old Is Miss FllbberT*
"I can't tell you exactly how old
she Is; of course, but I can (Its you
some Idea of her age."
