then existed. For the purpose of show
ing the improvement* and this bright
er day in the mills Mr. Lewis Ander
son with the cooperation of the opera
tives at the Watercc Mill will show
in pageaut form the mill from 1800
to the present day. Rehearsals are be
ing held nightly and the acts are tak
ing their forma. The scheme of the
whole play is the conditions which ex
isted from 1890 to 190T, emphasing the
lack of child-labor laws, uritldyness,
unsanitary conditions, the dress and
? style of that day.
From 1007 to 1917 will bring in the
lew improvements which took place in
Ihit period. From 1917 to 1920 will'
show the present day mill and the pos
sibility of the future. To those who
iiave seen it all in reality will have &
chance to reminisce. To those who are
unfamiliar with past conditions it wlH
be particularly interestJhg. The 4th
of July program will be taken up from
week to week in this column. The com
mittee of arrangements is trying to se
cure the services of Carl Buck one of
the world's famous pole vaulters, who
wlH give an exhibition pole valuting,
hurdling and high diving. Mr. Buck
has competed both at home and in for
eign countries. The athletic .program
for the morning will take in all the
young folks and the committee are lt>
hopes of getting some relay races be
tween the town boys and the Wateroe
boys. A bart>eQue at 12:30 to which
all are invited should be attractive
to everyone. A strong baseball game is
