An Indian Juggler'a remarkable feat
Is described hy a wrltor In the Wide
World Magazine. A slim young na
tive, accompanied hy a gray-bearded
assistant, appeared carrying a couple
of large baskets, from tlu; flrst of
which was produced a big python,
which the young native proceeded to
"charm" with his pipe. The Juggler
took the haHket containing the python,
placed It upon a large cloth, the four
corners of which he knotted together
with a strong, thin rope. At the end
of thin rope were nflixed two little
hollow-leaden cups, which he placed
over his eyobulls in such a way that
a vacuum was created. He then shut
his eyes so that the lids were outside
the cups.
The two side* of the rope were then
passed over his ears and. rising from
his sijuattlng position, lie lifted the
basket containing the snake hy the
grip of his eyelids and the suction on
hi* eyeballs, alone. The writer flhys
he has never heard of the feat being
perform^! before'or since.

cypress, says a bulletin of a large
American company. These so-called
"soft" woods are very durable and
posse** not a little natural beauty of
grain. . ?
Hardwood effects are secured on soft
woods by Mtaining with ah oil wood
stain, consisting of a permanent color
pigment In an oil vehicle. These
Btalns are particularly adapted to Use
on the soft woods. The effect Is com
pleted by applying a thin coat of shel
lac and finishing with two coiits of
prepared wax or floor varnish.
The first step toward obtaining the
desired finish Is to sandpaper the wood
smoothly. The stain should then be
applied freely with a brush, and, af
ter being allowed to stand for about
five or ten minutes, buffed off wUli a
cloth. When the stain has dried for
24 hours the shellac and wax or var
nish may be appjled as described.
A deeper effect than thiCt procured
by the method outlined may be ob
tained by the use of a varnish stain
over the oil wood stain. Both should,
of course, correspond. In color. Often
It Is difficult to determine upon the
best finish for a floor In the absence
Of expert-advice.
