tance between the <*>ast and the Eastern
North Carolina boundary Hues. If the
federal government will bear one-half
of the expense the bill will provide for
a bond iauue of $5<KM>00 for (be con
's lruction of a *teel bridge 200 feet in
length across the stream and a causeway
leading to the bridge on both sides of
the river, uggrepating seven miles.

tonight that whether the federal gov
ernment appropriated toward the con
struction of the bridge or not/'a bill
would be prepared if necessary for a
*1,000,000 issue.
The measure will be introduced in
the ?*en?te by Senator Dennis and by
Senator Young of Charleston County,
and in the Housn by tho Charleston,
?Berkeley and Williamsburg delegations
The construction of the .proposed Mur
ray's Ferry bridge connecting Berkeley
and Williamsburg Counties will open a
territory on a direct air line from Hock
in^bam, N. C., by wny^of Chesterlield,
Hiirtwville, Monck's Corner and Charles
ton.
At present people living iu the Santee
section have to detour many, miles to
get across the Santee. A wan said today
that he could hear the whistle of a saw
mill in, Berkeley Oouuty from his home
in Williamsburg .County, a distance of
weven miles, but if he desired to drive
to tho tniU in a car he would have to
come by Columbia, driving 2^0 miles.
It is hoped that if the bill i? com
pleted that it will be introduced in the
General Assembly tomorrow.

curred on the 6th' of February :

Good Colored Woman Dead.
. Jane Nelson, a colored woman well
known in this conunuuity as a nurse,
the wife of Allen Nelson, died suddenly
at 1?er home ftlbout two miles north of
Camden on Friday night February 0,
in her .sixtieth year and was buried tit

day afternoon. ^
By her first (husband, Charley Helton,
*h?? had eleven children to reach ma
turity, ten of whom survive her. Her
death brings sorrow to many, both white
and colored, us for more than a quarter
of a centttry .she has always been ready
to answer the call of sickness and suf
fering and no one wan ever too poor
tQ_ receive her service.
The respect and affection felt for her
was manifested at her funeral which was
one of the largest ever seen in the com
munity, and many of the white people
have expressed their regard for her jjnd
their appreciation of her faithful sr>r
vices.
Equipped Hotel With Refrigerators.
Mr. Eugene . W. Crouch, of the South
ern Scale and Fixture Co., of Columbia,
was in Camden this week for the pur
pose of putting in a refrigerating sys
tem ut The Kirkwood Hotel, on Camden
Heights. Thj.s is said to be one of the
largest sales of this kind made by this
company in this section in recent times.

Kirkwood, has had placed a ?yMem that

able (Roods, and jn this way will be bet
ter fitted to handle larger shipments
which It takes' to supply this large hotel.
