holiday dress and a three piece orchestra
furnished the music for the merry dance

cious punch and cake were served dur
ing the evening and lovely favors given.

COUNTRY CLUB
The 'opening datxje .for the season
was given at the Country Club' .on the
evening of the 26th. The music was
/furnished by a Columbia- orchestra and
the complete success of this first dance,
makes it snfe to predict unbounded pop
ularity for the rhrb this winter. Quite

CHAPTER HALL, !
One of 'the pleasant affairs of the holi
days whs the dance for the junior danc
ing set given at the Hubkirk Hill Chup
tervllall. The Chapter has recently put
in a piano and dances can be gotten up
on short notice. Members of the Hob-'
kirk Ilill Chapter chaperone all affairs
given at their Hall and this assures1 per-'
feet conduct and gentility in every re
spect, The dance on this occasion was
very enjoyable and will no doubt be
followed by others. It was the first
in a sesie.s of many delightful affairs
to 'be given in tWs beautiful old ante
bellum hall.

Miss Agnes Shannon was the charm-*
itig hostess at a loveJy fiance on the even
ing of the 26th to which about sixty of
her young, friends had been bidden to
come in and make merry. The rooms of
this handsome home were garlanded with
yule-tide emblems, and formed an appro
priate setting for the merry faces of
the lads and lassies gathered to celebrate
an old tiinp Christmas festival. From
a .crystal bowl embedded in ferns, fruit
punch was served, and delicious fruit
and pound cake always acceptable to
healthy young appetites were abundantly
in evidence. Miss Hetty St.
Paul, Minn., and Miss Ithetta Shannon

Sunday night Prof. Davies delivered an
interesting address at the Methodist
church. Prof. Davies' father is .with the

Mr. N. T. Purdy who left Camden
about thirty years ago, was a visitor
in Camden ' for a few days during the
holidays, Mr. Purdy was for a number
of years a merchant in the opera house
store and .Is pleasantly remembered by
^he older people. He is now a prominent
merchant -itf LRwrenceville, Va.
Miss Elizabeth Carrison -who is a
senior at Columbia University spent the
holidays with her parents Mr. and Mrs.
II. O. Carrison of* this city. Miss Car
rison has received many compliments and
been highly honored a number of times
at Columbia. She was elected to repre
sent that institution in the Students In
ternational Association meeting in Des
Moines. Iowa, this week, but for personal
reasons decided not to go.

Henry Clay Beatty for the murder of

meeting for the annual dues and Mrs.
Sill, the chapter treasurer urges every
one to pay promptly. The work ot' the
t".' I>. C. is three-fold ? memorial, educa
tional and -benevolent. The organisation
leads in education": we say this without
fear of contradiction., for last year we'
had seven hundred and ninety odd schol
arships and wjSent more than seventy
three thousand dollars on education.
These scholarships* .are for the descend
ants of Confederate soldiers and are
competitive as it is not known to whom
they are given and no "pull" however
strong can win them. We hopi* that
th** membership will 'turn out in fall

for the happy bride of Christmas week.

enthusiastic as she opened one by one

tree was laden and which lmd been show
ered from a cloud of love and goo<i wishes
by her most intimate friends. Friendly
chat and a merry time in general was
enjoyed by the young crowd, the hostess

the afternoon.
