The spacious reception hall and dining room wore thrown Into a lovely dance hall which was decorated with ferns and geraniums. Old fashioned games were plajrnd during the intermissions and Mr. Roland Goodale proved to he the lucky one by winning the booby prize in the cgig. hunt. PICNIC AT MIIJLIIANK The Douzaine Club gave a delightful picnic at Millbank last Monday evening. The pArty n^et at Mrs. rfobert Teams and went out to the pond 'In a truck. Swimming was en joye<! for about an hour after w<hieh lunch wa? served and the gay party- returned to town. Among the out of town guests were Misses Mary Evans and Annie Brasingtons of Kershaw, Miss Pearl Gray of Varnville aud Miss Ruth Crary of Columbia. W. Morref for a few wetJcs, after which they will visit friends in North Carolina before returning home. Mr. ahd Mrs. Sam M. Shiver and lit tle son Sam, Jr., of Abbeville have been on a visit to Camden this week. Mr. Shiver was born in Camden and left here in 1873. He began railroading at an early age and hag been a passenger engineer on the Seaboard between Jtfon roe and Atlanta for thirty one ^years. Only two other men on the Seaboard , system have been in service longer than I Mr. Shiver aud none other has a cleaner record as an engineer. His old-time friends were glad to see him here again. He was requested1 to either quit MUoking or leave the store. The negro replied with an oath that he in tended tp do neither and was shoved into the entrance by the doctor. The negro then struck him in the forehead. The doctor's son, Thedtford, on bearing the disturbance, rushed to his father's aid. getting there in time to have the remainder of the bottle thrown at him, whicfi cut through his shirt into his flesh. This, however, did not stop him and he advanced toward the buggy to which the negro was making his way. Just as he got by the buggy he was struck sev eral times across the back and shoul ders with a buggy whip in the hands of the other negro. A posse tried all night to find the nogroes and succeeded Sunday about noon. They were then placed in the \ IHllon jail and are awaiting trial. Con siderable feeling was exhibited in the town until it was known tfmt neither thr, doctor nor his mm was aerlotudy injured. Both negroes are said to have recently returned from overseas. Lieut.
